Your role and responsibilities
At Robotics Research & Development, we strive to provide our customers with the most technically advanced and innovative robot solutions, enhancing the speed and accuracy of our systems. Different modules in our modular controllers use a common functional safety platform based on a multi-processor system on chip (MPSoC). However, these modules have varying requirements for the type and amount of integrated dual-channel safety I/O functions. This variability necessitates a scalable solution that can accommodate different needs while maintaining a communication interface with safe protocol towards the functional safety platform. The master’s thesis aims to develop a future functional safety implementation that ensures easy reuse of base functionality and lower cost for simple safety functionality. Details: • Period: January-June 2025 or August-Dec 2025 • Number of credits: 30 ECTS • Number of students for this thesis work: 1-2 • Location: Finnslätten, Västerås on-site Objectives: 1. Investigate and analyze the current dual-channel functional safety I/O solutions used in modular controllers. 2. Develop a Functional Safety Base Solution: Create a standardized base solution that incorporates these common elements. 3. Adaptability Assessment: Evaluate how the functional safety base solution can be adjusted for different modules and controllers. Scope: 1. Literature Review: Conduct a comprehensive review of existing functional safety standards and dual-channel I/O solutions. 2. Requirement Analysis: Identify and document the varying requirements for dual-channel safety I/O functions across different modules. 3. Design Proposal: Develop a scalable design for integrating dual-channel safety I/O functions with a communication interface with safe protocol. We expect you to do the thesis work independently while you excel in engagement, curiosity, and collaboration. You will have a dedicated supervisor to guide you and numerous opportunities to influence the direction of the project as you see fit. Qualifications for the role

  • M.Sc. Dependable systems, Engineering Physics, Robotics, Electronics Engineering, Aviation and space or similar.
  • Strong interest in Functional Safety, as well as in Electronic Hardware and Firmware.
