At MAN Energy Solutions, we are developing propulsion engines and solutions for the global merchant vessel fleet. We design, develop and test these engines. Test activities are carried out at our research center in Copenhagen and at our licensees in South Korea, Japan and China.
You will play an important role in: As a Research Engineer in our Engine Process Development department, you will play a pivotal role in achieving our ambitious decarbonization targets. Your responsibilities will include :
- Conducting test activities at our research facility in Copenhagen or at our licensees in South Korea, Japan, and China.
- Driving innovation by exploring new concepts and optimizing existing engine technologies.
- Specifying future engine design based on analysis and test results
- Supporting our retrofit decarbonization activities by developing technically viable and certifiable retrofit products such as turbocharger cut out, de-ratings and dual fuel conversions.
- Supporting and collaborating with internal and external business partners in projects of various scales.
A typical work week will include the analysis of simulation results and test measurements with the purpose of optimizing and specifying the engine process.
You will participate in planning and execution of prototype testing abroad where you will get an exciting opportunity to verify and evaluate how our engines are performing on test-bed. You can expect 2 to 4 business trips per year, lasting 10 to 20 days each, totaling approximately 60 travel days per year, mostly to our licensees in East Asia, but can also include sea trials in other parts of the world.
You will closely collaborate with other departments and engineering fields, enjoying the freedom to influence your own specialist area.
We imagine that you: Are a dedicated and curious team player with relevant skills such as:
- A background in Mechanical, Marine, Energy Engineering, or otherwise be specialized in energy technology, combustion engines, thermodynamics or fluid mechanics.
- An interest in data analysis and possess basic programming skills in Python, MATLAB or C++.
- Analytical skills as well as good communication and collaboration skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English, both verbally in writing.
- A positive mindset, enjoying sharing experience and sustaining organizational learning.
Welcome to the Engine Process Development Department We are an R&D function consisting of 60 colleagues with various fields of specialization ranging from experts in measurement technologies, engine performance, emissions and simulations all working in close collaboration both internally and with other departments in the organization in cross departmental competence groups.
You will be joining either our Dual Fuel or Platform group, each consisting of 15 colleagues each . We value personal development and have recently reorganized to become a more scalable organization focusing on empowering our employees and encourage personal development.
We are end to end accountable for the engine performance strategies including optimization of fuel consumption (performance), turbocharging strategies, compliance with emission legislation as well as development of future retrofit solutions enabling existing vessels to be upgraded with latest technology. Furthermore, we are responsible for specification of fuel injection system and in particular the layout of atomizer spray pattern.
