Sailing container vessels with food, goods and medicine across the world is a lifestyle. At Maersk, our 12,000 seafarers are working and living at sea for weeks and months on end, sharing the ship and the experience only with their colleagues onboard, day and night, through light and darkness. It takes the right kind of seafarers, and it takes dedicated colleagues on shore who are committed to making sure our seagoing colleagues have the support they need to stay mentally and physically well and thrive while onboard. We are on the lookout for that very special colleague right now.
Mental health and wellbeing of our seafarers are essential for safe and effective vessel operations. To ensure this, we are now looking for a new Crew Wellbeing & Welfare Manager to help us define, scope, and deliver key initiatives that drives and promote mental health and wellbeing onboard – from introducing a new confidential helpline, to enabling social activities onboard, to ensuring mental health training and awareness across sea and shore. This and much more in close collaboration with a bunch of passionate and skilled colleagues in the global Marine People & Culture Team.
About the Role
Our new Crew Wellbeing & Welfare Manager will be based in Nordhavn, Copenhagen, and will be reporting to our Crew Engagement Lead. Crew Engagement is a part of Marine People Strategy where we run with initiatives and projects that drive culture, engagement and health & wellbeing for our seafarers.
In this impactful role, you will be responsible for identifying, scoping and implementing initiatives to enhance seafarers’ mental health, wellbeing, and welfare across Maersk’s global fleet. Working closely with internal teams and stakeholders, you will:
Define and Drive Strategy: Help us understand what “great mental health and wellbeing” looks like and lead initiatives that bring this vision to life, improving the working environment, ensuring work-life balance, and fostering healthy and sustainable careers for our seagoing colleagues
Analyze, Identify & Prioritize: Lead the work to unveil where we can do better and prioritise opportunities for improvement and initiatives with meaningful, long-term impact.
Progress Projects: Develop detailed plans and lead the execution of wellbeing projects. Collaborate with global teams to drive meaningful change and set industry-leading standards for mental health and wellbeing
Build connection and engagement: Ensure clear communication, awareness, and implementation of mental health initiatives across sea and shore teams. Integrate wellbeing into recognition, development, and communication strategies.
Measure, Report & Improve: Monitor the impact of wellbeing and engagement initiatives, using data to drive continuous improvement. Facilitate open feedback loops, ensuring seafarers feel heard, supported, and engaged.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Crew Engagement Lead to define and execute the Marine Mental Health strategy.
- Conduct gap analyses to identify areas for improvement and prioritize initiatives.
- Establish governance and manage project plans to ensure successful delivery of wellbeing programs across our fleet.
- Promote awareness and drive engagement in mental health initiatives across the organization.
- Partner up with Marine People and Culture teams and across FMT to integrate mental health and welfare programs into daily operations.
- Track progress, analyze data, and ensure projects deliver lasting value.
- Facilitate clear communication and engagement between sea and shore teams to build a supportive, healthy environment.

Qualifications and Skills:
- Project & Change Management: Proven ability to plan, execute, and deliver initiatives on a global scale.
- Health & Wellbeing: Experience in health and wellbeing within an operational context is highly valued.
- Analytical & Strategic Thinking: Ability to think your ideas into a bigger context and skills in identifying trends, gaps, and measuring success.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Ability to influence stakeholders and team up with a variety of internal colleagues and external partners, some in offices, many at sea, to make some real change
- Communication: Interpersonal superpowers and ability to connect sea and shore teams and foster open, inclusive conversations.
- A caring and inclusive mindset with a passion for improving mental health and wellbeing.
- Ability to engage and manage very diverse stakeholders, ensuring collaboration across cultures and geographies.
- Leadership skills with a proactive, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
