Mechanical Engineer at Quantum Foundry Copenhagen

Novo Nordisk Fonden

Mechanical Engineer at Quantum Foundry Copenhagen

Description
Mechanical Engineer – Quantum Foundry Copenhagen
Join us in building the next generation foundry for quantum processor manufacturing – We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team.

Do you want to be a part of pioneering quantum computing in a world-class quantum ecosystem in the heart of Copenhagen? Quantum Foundry Copenhagen is a newly founded company, owned by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF), aimed at developing next generation Quantum Computing Processor technologies.

Our mission is to establish a foundry capable of manufacturing quantum processor units (QPUs) employing novel methods to meet the extreme requirements for purity and precision needed to bring Quantum Computing to scale.

About us
Our company is part of a vibrant and growing Danish quantum ecosystem, and we collaborate closely with world-leading researchers at Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP www.nqcp.ku.dk) based at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. The NQCP programme is designed to facilitate and drive research and innovations at multiple levels – from developing materials and quantum processor technologies through solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications.

In close collaboration with NQCP and international partners, we aim to pioneer chip-based fabrication and packaging methods for state-of-the-art quantum processors.

Join our team
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to be part of an ambitious and dedicated team that develops tools and machines for supporting fabrication of ultra-pure and high precision chip manufacturing. Together with a dedicated interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers your work will be centered around enabling the creation of scalable error corrected quantum processors in close collaboration with NQCP engineering teams, pilot lines and external partners.

You will work on the development of high precision tools and automation of UHV in-situ fabrication processes. The tools will enable quantum platforms based on, but not limited to, semiconductor spin qubits, superconducting qubits, and photonic qubits.

The position involves designing and building novel wafer-scale nanofabrication UHV tools and processes in close collaboration with Quantum Materials Engineering and Quantum Platform Integration teams. The successful candidate operates well in cross-functional collaboration and teamwork, and possesses an innovative, curious and goal driven mindset.

Your duties and tasks will include:

  • Develop and manage mechatronics projects that support Quantum Foundry Copenhagen’s over-all goals
  • Take ownership and lead projects from conception to implementation
  • Document designs and other engineering solutions
  • Work with vendors and suppliers on new design concepts
  • Follow industry standards for systems engineering concepts
  • Analyse requirements against existing capabilities and estimate risks and yields for new processes

Professional and Personal Qualifications
You may have several years of experience and want to work at the cutting edge of technology. You can see new solutions to problems and work with your colleagues to help Quantum Foundry Copenhagen become one of the leading quantum foundries in the world.

Your qualifications must include several of the bullets mentioned below:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, mechatronics, physics or related.
  • 2+ years’ experience with hardware engineering – preferably vacuum systems, system engineering, mechatronics, thermodynamics etc.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design – preferably Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of UHV compatible materials.
  • Design of high and low (cryo) temperature systems.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and cleaning methods for UHV components.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Comprehensive expertise in crystal growth techniques and equipment.

You are driven and self-motivated, keep focused on pace and outcome and inspire others with your constructive and collaborative workstyle.

Your colleagues would describe you as analytical, structured, and curious. You are a team-player and work to develop the best solutions with input from highly skilled colleagues in interdisciplinary fields.

We offer
Joining our team offers opportunities for professional growth and collaboration with leading experts in the field of quantum computing. We strive to be a world leading foundry and offer competitive salaries along with the many benefits of living in Copenhagen – one of the most liveable cities in the world.

Benefits also include generous vacation time, health insurance, a pension scheme, and a chance to contribute to a dynamic and innovative team.
