We are looking for
A research assistant to support the research project “Migrant women in the Swedish labour market: What can we learn from the experiences of Ukrainians and Syrians?” funded by FORTE, and placed at the Faculty of Culture and Society, the Department of Global Political Studies.
Work duties
The primary work task of the research assistant will be to interview women from Syria who live in Sweden. Transcription and analyzing interview material may also be part of the position.
Other work tasks may be added based on the needs of the project.
Qualifications
Specific requirements for this position:
- Native speaker of Arabic or highly fluent in this language (verbal and written), preferably the Syrian dialect.
- Previous documented experience in conducting qualitative interviews with Syrian women.
The following would be of benefit for the position:
- University degree in Social Sciences.
- Good language skills in English and Swedish, writing, reading and speaking.
- Previous experience working with research projects.
In addition to formal competence, University employees must possess the personal capacities necessary to perform the duties of the position well and to represent the University in the best possible way. For this position, you will need to have excellent communication skills, good ability to work independently as well as collaborative skills.

The Faculty of Culture and Society is a multidisciplinary faculty that includes the School of Arts and Communication, the Department of Global Political Studies and the Department of Urban Studies. The Faculty conducts postgraduate studies in the following subjects: Global Politics, Interaction Design, International Migration and Ethnic Relations, Media and Communication Studies and Urban Studies.

The Department of Global Political Studies
The Department of Global Political Studies is a multidisciplinary research and educational environment with Bachelor programs in European Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, International Migration and Ethnic Relations (IMER), Diversity Studies, International Relations, Human Rights, and Political Science. There are two Masters programs in IMER and Global Politics as well as two Ph.D. programmes in the same subjects. The Department’s educational programmes and research focus on global processes of change and their impact on societies and individuals. Our research environment also includes MIM (Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare) and the research group RUCARR (Russia, Ukraine and the Caucasus Regional Research).
