Job Description:
We are looking for Ground Segment System Engineers to support our client EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, for the Copernicus missions’ ground segments under development or in operations, including the Multi-Mission elements.
You will be working within a multi-disciplinary team, in the Ground Segment Systems Engineering Competence Area, within the Satellite System Ground Segment Division (SGS) of the Technical and Scientific Support Department (TSS).
The main activities of the service would be supporting all Copernicus missions, including Sentinel 5 (on board of EPS-SG), Sentinel 4 (on board of MTG), Sentinel-3 series, Sentinel-6 series, CRISTAL, CIMR, and CO2M.
The Copernicus programme is an Earth monitoring initiative led by the EU and carried out in partnership with the EU Member States, ESA and EUMETSAT. It has been established to fulfil the growing need amongst European policymakers to access accurate and timely information services to better manage the environment, understand and mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure civil security.
The position will include tasks such as:
- Contribution to management and programmatic activities.
- Engineering activities for requirements definition/consolidation and early design phases (direct implementation or follow up support provided to EUMETSAT teams).
- Engineering activities for detail design phases and build-up phases (also direct implementation or follow up support provided to EUMETSAT teams).
- Engineering activities for IVV, including:
- Definition of AIV plans and test scenarios, specifications and procedures.
- Coordination and implementation of integration activities.
- Coordination and implementation of Verification activities.
- Contribution to Validation activities.
- Engineering activities for supporting operations and maintenance (corrective and evolutive) of different EUMETSAT ground segments.
Skills Required
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- At least 3 years’ experience in Systems Engineering and IV&V (Integration, Verification and Validation) related activities for at least one major element of a ground segment for earth observation missions
- Knowledge of space and ground system engineering processes, and system and software life-cycles and standards
- Experience in change control procedures
- Experienced with reporting on the task performance in JIRA.
- Experience in writing technical requirements
- Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools (e.g.DOORS)
- Experience in interface management and definition, including familiarity with mechanisms and tools for detailed interface definition and capability to prepare and manage ICD - Interface Control Document
- Experience with formal testing [FAT- Factory Acceptance Test(ing) / OSAT - On-site Acceptance Test(ing)], including preparation of test procedures, TRRs - Test Readiness Review / TRBs - Test Review Board
- Experience in formal verification control processes (VCBs - Verification Control Board) and maintenance of VCDs - Verification Control Document
- Use of modelling and design languages for System Engineering (e.g. SysML) and tools in support of architectural design activities (e.g. Enterprise Architect)
- Experience in operational environments under strict configuration management rules
- Experience in maintenance of ground system and associated anomaly management process
Additional Skills (ideally having experience with as many as possible):
- Experience with Data Processing systems for earth observation missions
- Experience with Satellite Mission Control systems for earth observation missions
- Experience with Ground Stations and/or EUMETSAT Multi-Mission Elements for archiving, monitoring, data dissemination
- Knowledge of scripting in Linux environment
- Experience with ground segment test data, including reconditioning, change control, and related test tools
- Knowledge of IT/ground segment technologies: relational databases, virtualisation, networking, SW deployment tools, etc.
