Oracle/PostgreSQL Database Administrator

Our Database Operations team plays a critical role in ensuring the stability and performance of our database systems. Currently, we are expanding our team and seeking a skilled Oracle / PostgreSQL Database Specialist to join us in driving excellence in database management.

As a member of our Database Operations team, you will be part of a global team of talented professionals responsible for managing and optimizing various database systems, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, DB2 and few others open-source databases. This role requires expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, with opportunities to work on Oracle databases and gain exposure to DB2. You will be responsible for the daily operations and optimization of PostgreSQL databases for our clients, while also contributing to broader database initiatives and projects.

 

Your Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases, including setup, testing, tuning, and upgrading
  • Manage migrations from Oracle to PostgreSQL, ensuring smooth transition and minimal disruption
  • Continuously monitor database performance and uptime, implementing adjustments for efficiency improvements
  • Plan and monitor database capacity and usage, ensuring scalability and efficient resource utilization
  • Establish and maintain rigorous security measures and integrity controls for databases
  • Plan and execute regular database backups, ensuring robust disaster recovery strategies
  • Proactively identify and resolve database issues, including root cause analysis and implementing solutions
  • Handle database creation and migration across various environments, supporting migrations between development, testing, and production
  • Participate in daily database operations, incident, service request, and change management, while maintaining thorough documentation
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional IT teams, engaging in problem-solving and seeking opportunities for automation and process improvements

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Expertise in managing PostgreSQL database systems with HA DR setup
  • Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL database administration, as well as Unix, Linux, Windows, Network, and Clustering technologies
  • Business-oriented communication skills and a problem-solving attitude
  • Independent and open to learning new technologies and methodologies
  • Experience with Oracle databases is highly desirable
  • Experience with migrations from On-premises PostgreSQL to Azure Managed Instance and Oracle Database to PostgreSQL Managed Instance is advantageous
  • Knowledge of other open-source database administration would be beneficial
  • Basic orientation and knowledge of DB2 is a plus
