The Role & Department

The lead space system engineer is responsible for the design, construction and delivery of small satellites for international customers, starting from the preliminary review of the product to the acceptance of the product by the client.

The systems enginerr will work in our Programs Deklivery team focus, which focus on delivering satellites to customers.

The second teeam in our Luxembourgish office is the Product team focusing on developing mission control systems as products. The Progranms works with European agencies, like European Space Agency and Lucemborugish Space Agwency, as well as some commercial clients.

Main tasks include coordinating technical aspects with the customers and the external suppliers, the architecture and design of the components and preparing and keeping up to date the different documentation according to the standards of ESA.

The engineer is involved in the early design of a variety of mission types that can happen in parallel and in different stages, where assembly, integration and test of multiple spacecraft is happening, including delivery and launch site operations. Interaction and dialogue with the customers and colleagues is an important part of the job. Day to day activities include two to four internal weekly meetings to plan ahead using SCRUM and JIRA for tasks.

Key responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Spacecraft systems design and architecture – both overall and in details with hands-on work.
  • Coordinating technical activities with customers and suppliers.
  • Alignment of mission and spacecraft design to ESA standards
  • Technical consulting with international clients.
  • Coaching and guidance of non-senior engineers.
  • Prepare documentation according to applied space engineering standards.
  • Technical involvement on all aspects of mission and spacecraft design.
  • Ensuring a proper balance between time consumption and quality.
  • Assignment planning using SCRUM and JIRA

Requirements

You have several years of experience with satellite design, perferable from new space projects.

  • A combined commercial and technological understanding
  • Strong understanding of space systems, including satellites, spacecrafts, launch vehicles, orbit control and related technologies
  • Proficiency in systems engineering principles and methodologies, such as requirements analysis, system architecture, simulation, integration, verification, and validation
  • Previous experience with delivering work according to ESA ECSS or similar NASA
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges
  • Experienced in systems validation and qualification, and system performance.
  • Familiarity with programming languages or scripting languages may be beneficial (e.g. XML, Python, Matlab)
  • CAD and mission tools: SOLIDWORKS, STK, GMAT or similar
  • Strong quality awareness; understanding of quality assurance processes and standards in the aerospace industry.
  • Risk Management: Ability to identify and mitigate risks associated with space missions or projects
  • Understanding of and/or experience within functional aspects of building/developing a spacecraft
