Research Assistant in Robotics for Welfare Applications

SDU Robotics, part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), located in Odense, invites applications for a year position as Research Assistant, which will be vacant from September 1st, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. Enddate for the position will be agreed with the applicant.

The candidate will be integrated in the SDU Robotics section specialized in robot solutions involving sensorial processing, mathematical modeling, learning and simulation targeted at advanced robot systems for welfare but also other application domains. The section comprises an international staff and is involved in a variety of national and European projects. The aim of the section is to solve challenging research problems from real applications and to participate in implementing the achieved results into real solutions with end users. We are looking for candidates that can contribute to facilitating the process of the design and implementation of highly flexible robotic solutions for the welfare domain involving the combination of advanced mechanical design, robot programs and handling of human-robot interactions.

To further strengthen the welfare robotics activities of the SDU-Robotics section, we want to apply a researcher that contributes to our activities in the two current projects SMOOTH (smooth-robot.dk) and Health-CAT (healthcat.eu).

The candidate is supposed to have most of the following qualifications:

  • Navigation and mobile robotics
  • Robotics in general
  • State machines, in particular “behavior trees”

Preferable the successful candidate also expected to:

  • integrate him/her-self into an interdisciplinary team
  • have practical experience with ROS and the integration of robotic applications
  • have strong programming skills (e.g. C++, python)

Requirements for the position
The required qualification is graduate level.

Applications will be assessed by an expert. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.

Shortlisting may be used. Only shortlisted applicants will be assessed.

Interview and test might be part of the assessment process.

Conditions of employment
Employment as a research assistant is temporary. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.

Employment is governed by the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
