About the department
The Department of Infectious Disease Immunology focuses on research and development of next-generation vaccines and diagnostic tools, primarily within chlamydia, tuberculosis, and vaccine adjuvants. The department conducts both basic and translational research, and are highly rated internationally. As part of Statens Serum Institut, Center for Vaccine Research, we can efficiently move products from research into clinical trials. We collaborate closely with a large number of institutions and are externally funded by e.g. the European Commission and the Danish Research Council.

About the position
We are looking for a dedicated PhD fellow with an interest in vaccine immunology. You will investigate cellular mechanisms leading to protective immunity upon immunization against chlamydia. The project comprises advanced T cell transfer, the development of new assays for measuring immune responses, and development of new animal models. The ambition is to rationally optimize vaccine design and immunization strategies. The work will include wet lab work and animal experimentation, from design to data analysis and manuscript preparation.

Required qualifications
We expect that you are hardworking and self-motivated with a master’s degree in Life Sciences (biochemistry, molecular biomedicine, molecular biology, human biology or in an equivalent area).

Furthermore, the ideal candidate possess the following qualities and skills:
• Critical and creative thinking is essential
• Training in immunology is preferred
• Research experience with in vitro immunological assays i.e. Flow Cytometry, MSD and ELISA
• Experience with handling of animal experiments is an advantage
• We expect that you are dynamic, independent and goal orientated

Terms of employment
The employment as PhD fellow is – after documented enrollment as a PhD fellow – covered by the terms of the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of professional Associations (overenskomst for akademikere I staten og protokollat 5 om ph.d-stipendiater).

The employment is of 3 years duration.
