NEPCon (Nature, Economy and People Connected) is a non-profit organisation that works for sustainable land use and climate-friendly solutions. With 230+ staff around the world, our projects build capacity, raise awareness, conserve nature and streamline sustainability through innovation.

As Communications Specialist, your main focus will be to increase the profile and visibility of NEPCon in Denmark as a global non-profit organisation, through managing the development and implementation of communications strategy and campaigns in the country.

You are excited to build awareness of NEPCon’s non-profit work, and our core programmes on land use, climate change, conservation and traceability or other supply chain issues. This is an exciting role that allows the successful candidate to shape the awareness of NEPCon as a not-for-profit global organisation. The main areas of responsibility include:

  • Leading communication efforts to promote NEPCon's work, mission and vision in Denmark.
  • Based on NEPCon’s overall organisational branding strategy, develop and implement a communications strategy and campaigns targeting donors, partners, members, and other key stakeholders to raise NEPCon’s profile as an NGO and ultimately to raise funds for NEPCon projects and operations.
  • Mobilise and manage the engagement of Danish media in conveying the impacts and progress of NEPCon’s activities.
  • Provide support to the development and implementation of communications activities related to international projects. This includes writing press releases, articles or stories on project milestones, events and achievements; designing awareness campaigns; engaging the media, etc.

Professional requirements

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any relevant subject, such as journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, etc.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a role primarily focused on communications, journalism or media relations.
  • Experience working in the environmental or developmental sectors. It is a plus if you also have experience communicating about sustainability, conservation and climate change for an international NGO.
  • Good understanding of the media landscape in Denmark, and an established relationship with the Danish media.
  • Experienced and confident writer and storyteller, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Danish and English.
  • Demonstrated skills in the development of success stories, case studies, press releases to present credible and engaging content, and other material to specifically target media outlets.
  • Strong analytical and research skills and demonstrated ability to think strategically.
  • Aptitude in presentation and public speaking.
  • Proficient user of the MS Office package (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Ability to interact culturally, linguistically and diplomatically with diverse internal and external individuals.
  • Strong time/process management skills and ability to establish priorities and work to deadlines.
  • Self-motivation and flexibility to deal with a range complex programmes and projects in a growing organisation.
  • You believe in NEPCon’s vision and mission and want to contribute to fulfilling it.

Position details

  • Work time: 37 hours/week  
  • The position reports to our Communications Manager, based in Vietnam
  • Working location: NEPCon’s office in Copenhagen or Aarhus, or from home office elsewhere in Denmark.
  • Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
  • Expected starting date: as soon as possible
