Københavns Universitet (KU)

Ph.d. & forskning
Storkøbenhavn
Øresundsregionen

Applications are invited for a PhD fellowship (three years) at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The PhD student will be part of an international research group investigating structural and psychological determinants as well as behavioural interventions related to vaccination behaviour and antibiotics intake. The project aims to utilize ‘economic games’ in online and lab experiments to investigate social interactions in health behaviour. Funding for conducting experiments as well as for conference visits is available. The principal investigator of the project and the PhD supervisor is Robert Böhm, Professor in Applied Social Psychology and Behavioural Science (from October 2019) at the Department of Psychology. Employment of the PhD student preferably starts in November/December 2019 or shortly thereafter.

The deadline for applications is September 1, 2019.
Requirements
Applicants should have studied Psychology, Economics, or a closely related subject, and must have completed a Master degree education before starting the employment. The candidate should be experienced with (or willing to learn) conducting interactive behavioural experiments using oTree or similar software solutions. Knowledge in health psychology/economics, game theory, and statistical analyses using R is desirable. It is not a requirement to understand, speak, or learn Danish.

Position
The chosen candidate will be enrolled as PhD student at the Faculty of Social Sciences (see the rules of the Danish Ministerial order No 1039 of August 27th 2013), completing the PhD program as a three year full-time study within the framework of the 5+3 study program (see http://samf.ku.dk/phd-skolen/english). PhD students are paid a salary in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC); the exact salary depends on several factors (e.g., chosen pension scheme), but can be expected to be around 17,500 DKK net/month (or around 19,500 DKK/month including pension savings). As part of the PhD, PhD students have a work obligation without additional pay, which is typically covered by teaching two seminars within the entire 3-year period (i.e., not two seminars per term).

Application process
The application should include:

  • a cover/motivation letter (max. 2 pages),
  • CV,
  • diplomas and transcripts of grades,
  • own publications (if applicable),
  • the Bachelor and Master theses (if applicable),
  • as well as at least one reference letter or the name and contact information of the person(s) who would provide the reference(s).

The application must be submitted electronically via the job portal of the University of Copenhagen: http://employment.ku.dk/phd/ (if the job portal system asks you to upload more than the required documents, just upload empty blankets). The University of Copenhagen wishes to reflect the surrounding society, and invites all qualified applicants, regardless of personal background, to apply for the position.

Applicants can read about the recruitment process at http://employment.ku.dk. In brief, applicants will first be informed about whether they are shortlisted or not. The shortlisting will be based on the qualifications and knowledge in relevant aspects, as well as on the motivation of the applicants. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to an online or offline job interview (mainly dealing with research experiences and interests) with the PhD supervisor. The shortlisting will take place in September 2019, and the interviews subsequently (in accordance with the invited applicants).
