Researcher in Building services for Low-temperature District Heating Systems

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for the position as researcher in building services for low-temperature district heating within the Energy and Services section from January 1, 2020.

The position will be part of the section’s research, innovation, teaching and scientific advice capabilities. The section is focused on research, development and testing in all energy related aspects for new and existing buildings in both large scale and building scale. We perform research on the building envelope, building services and energy systems to develop the scientific foundation for sustainable buildings with a high quality indoor environment and low energy demand.

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position.

Responsibilities and tasks
The selected researcher’s primary responsibilities will be in research and to a lesser degree teaching.

The overall focus of the research, teaching and innovation in the section is to deliver a significant contribution to achieve a society free of fossil energy and to contribute to increased quality and cost efficiency in the building sector. This is achieved through research on design methods and measurement methods to develop, optimize and guarantee performance of components, buildings and energy systems and through development activities in close collaboration with the industry.

The candidate for the present position should have a research approach with a particular focus on integration between the district heating system and the technical services in the building for heating and ventilation.

The applicant is expected to be familiar with a number of the following topics:

  • Heating systems and building services for low-temperature district heating
  • Thermal building performance simulation and simulation of district heating networks
  • Typical Danish buildings and district heating systems
  • Integration of heating, cooling, electricity and gas networks for the future Danish smart energy systems
  • Relevant measurements and tests on heating systems in buildings
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken

Moreover, the successful candidate is expected to engage heavily in fundraising activities targeted towards this field of research, and play a significant role the implementation of the sections digitalisation strategy.

Other content of the position:

  • Researchers have responsibilities related to PhD and Postdoc supervision, research project management and academic departmental work.
  • The research projects are often in collaboration with international research institutions and industry partners. Candidates should have experience from participation in international research projects.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Applicants must possess and document strong qualifications in research demonstrated through publications and citations in international scientific journals, and through successful collaborations and projects.

The candidate can have a background as engineer or equivalent.

Applicants should document their interest, qualifications, and experience (if any) in research-based university teaching.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment.
