Postdoc in developmental genetics at Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen

Københavns Universitet (KU)

Fuldtidsjob

Storkøbenhavn
Øresundsregionen

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a one year position, to commence Jan. 1st, 2020.

Our research
Our main research interest is molecular and genetic mechanisms of cardiac development and congenital heart disease. We are using a multidisciplinary approach, where we combine genetic and genomic investigations of patients, with functional investigations based on embryonic tissues, cell models and zebrafish. Our ambition is to perform research on the highest level and publish in high-quality international journals. We have a very inclusive working environment and a large network of national and international collaborators. More information about our research can be found at: https://icmm.ku.dk/english/research-groups/la-larsen-group/

Information on the department can be found at: https://icmm.ku.dk/english/

Your job
Your project will focus on functional characterization of candidate disease genes identified in patients with congenital heart defects. Preferably, the functional characterization of cardiac developmental genes should be performed using zebrafish and cell models. Consequently, the project will include standard methods for gene targeting in zebrafish (i.e. morpholino and CRISPR-cas9 based gene targeting) and phenotypic characterization of heart defects. Thus, documented expertise in zebrafish developmental biology will be an advantage.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in cell biology or developmental biology
  • You are highly experienced in molecular biology
  • You have an active interest in developmental genetics, cardiac development or congenital heart disease.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Hands-on experience with zebrafish as model organism
  • Experience with developmental biology

Your PhD must be awarded less than 4 years before the application deadline of the fellowship. Documented periods of leave (parental leave, leave due to sickness and military service) can be deducted from the time since the PhD was awarded.

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM), University of Copenhagen aiming to produce research with high international impact. ICMM offers a creative and ambitious scientific environment, with many different nationalities represented. The research focus is on the functional cell, its genetic components and molecular cellular mechanisms in a medical context. The ICMM currently comprises five research programmes, three high profile research centers, as well as a number of international research groups. The scientists at ICMM are also involved in high quality research based undergraduate and graduate teaching programs at the University of Copenhagen.

Our research facilities include modern laboratories and a new zebrafish facility.

Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time and fixed-term position for one years. Starting date is 1.1.2020.

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 34,000 DKK/ approx. 4,533 Euro (1 October 2019-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.
