API Support responsibilities and ambitions

The API Support unit is an essential support function for the API production for polio, difteria, tetanus, pertussis and BCG vaccines. The role of API Support unit is to ensure continued process operation and improved yields of the API productions. We troubleshoot, develop and optimize both upstream and downstream processes in close collaboration with the production units.

Due to the microbiological and/or protein chemical process problem-solving role of API Support, we are looking for a colleague with a strong scientific background, knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, business understanding and experience with developmental work.

AJ Vaccines is undergoing an amazing transformation to scale up our productions and API Support is instrumental in optimizing processes in all bulk productions to increase our capacity and meet production goals. If you are enthusiastic about biological process support, systematic problem solving and process improvements you may be our new colleague.

Presently, we are 19 committed, professional and highly skilled people in the unit: Seven chemists/microbiologists, 10 technicians and two managers.

AJ Vaccines is a global company with headquarter and production site in Copenhagen, Denmark, where we employ approximately 700 people, offering the great advantage of a very broad interface and opportunities to develop.

Your tasks and responsibilities

You will be responsible for running lab scale/pilot scale downstream for support and optimization of the productions. Resolving issues in the production demands an understanding of pharmaceutical production to be able to create necessary and realistic solutions. You will be working on tasks that require knowledge of purification of virus or toxins. You will be planning, supervising and supporting laboratory runs and must factor in a fair amount of time in the laboratory.

We expect you to have excellent communication and collaboration skills, the ability to identify, challenge and implement potential improvements to work procedures, and to drive complicated development projects.

Primary areas you will cover

  • Downstream of poliovirus and Bordetella pertussis toxins in labscale/pilotscale
  • Data analysis
  • Documentation
  • Assessment, optimization and approval of analyses

Who are you?

You have a background as e.g. a biochemist, chemist or engineer with a minimum of a few years of experience from the pharmaceutical industry. It would be an advantage if you have also worked with development or support.

We are in the middle of an extremely interesting and large turnaround of a two-year-old company. A positive and proactive approach to life, people and complexity rhymes on you, and you thrive with entrepreneurism and can cope, communicate, and prioritize to meet tight deadlines and still feel good. You are a team player and you are solution-oriented.

It is a requirement that you have a high proficiency in written and spoken English.
