Are you a creative AI scientist with interests in Deep Learning and talent for handling large image datasets? Then you might be the Postdoc we are looking for!

A 3-year Postdoc position in Deep Learning based Image Analysis.
As a postdoctoral researcher at Danish Research Centre for Magnetic Resonance (DRCMR) you will develop multi-parametric MRI processing methods specifically designed for neuroscientific applications together with the Ultra-high-field MR group (www.drcmr.dk/7t), the Computational Neuroimaging group (www.drcmr.dk/computational-neuroimaging) and collaborative partners, in particular the Cognitive Systems Section at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science and the Department of Health Technology at the Technical University of Denmark.

You will contribute to an exciting field where artificial intelligence and more specifically deep learning has become an indispensable tool. Your focus will be neuroscientific, specifically on the detection of image-based biomarkers that predict cognitive decline and neuro degenerative disease such as Dementia and Parkinsonism.

About the NeuroPrint project
The overall aim of the project is to prove that, by combining information from existing state-of-the-art MRI sequences, healthy subjects can be separated from patients with neurodegenerative diseases and lifestyle disease at the individual level and not only retrospectively at group level as is the case today.

The overarching hypothesis is that most MR-based brain imaging modalities reveal some disease-specific information. These features have to be extracted and merged using AI in order to yield a reliable decision criterion at the individual level. The NeuroPrint project is a collaboration between DRCMR and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), financed by The Capital Region of Denmark. You will be based at the DRCMR.

About DRCMR
DRCMR is one of the leading research centers for biomedical MRI in Europe (www.drcmr.dk). We are an interdisciplinary research centre and our mission is to triangulate MR physics, basic physiology, and clinical research. Approximately 70 researchers from a diverse range of disciplines work together to pursue basic and clinically applied MR research with a focus on structural, functional, and metabolic MRI of the human brain and its disorders. Collaboration is key at DRCMR – we do not expect any researcher to be able to do everything alone, but we expect everyone to be interested in sharing knowledge with colleagues.

The DRCMR is embedded in the Center for Functional and Diagnostic Imaging and Research, a large diagnostic imaging department including all biomedical imaging modalities at Copenhagen University Hospital Hvidovre.

DRCMR has close interaction with clinicians and radiologists and a state-of-the-art MR-research infrastructure, which includes a pre-clinical 7T MR scanner, six whole-body MR scanners (one 7T, three 3T and two 1.5T scanners), a neuropsychology laboratory, an EEG laboratory, and two laboratories for non-invasive brain stimulation. In addition, DRCMR has its own CPU/GPU cluster for processing as well as access to The National Life Science Supercomputing Center (Computerome, http://www.computerome.dtu.dk/).

Your profile:
You should be a creative and enthusiastic researcher with:

  • A PhD degree in computer science, data science, engineering, physics, engineering, physics, biomedical sciences or a related field.
  • A clear interest in image analysis using machine learning and deep learning.
  • Affinity with medical applications.
  • Expertise in software development are essential, preferably in Python/C++
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.
  • Previous experience with MRI acquisition and data analysis is advantageous but not a requirement.

Your tasks:

  • To work directly with neuroimaging researchers to ensure that our research studies, in particular our aging, Dementia and Parkinsonism studies take full advantage of the clinical information available in the multi-parametric MRI images (structural, functional and metabolic) as well from the cognitive and functional tests.
  • To develop novel imaging analysis methods rooted in deep learning algorithms.
  • To advance the field through your own research.
  • To engage in internal education, grant writing, knowledge dissemination, and publication of results in international, recognized scientific journals.

Your position:
You will be employed for a three-year period at the Danish Research Centre for Magnetic Resonance where you will be part of the Ultra-high-field MR group and the Computational Neuroimaging group.

Salary and Terms of Employment:
Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Regions (Danske Regioner) and the relevant professional organization. The salary depends on background education and seniority. Further, supplements can be negotiated. Note that candidates coming from abroad may be eligible for tax reductions.
