Business Unit Offshore Wind is growing and we are looking for a Head of Department to lead and develop a new Department for Material Technology and Corrosion Protection.

The new Department for Material Technology and Corrosion Protection so far employs 5 engineers and is part of the Department for Foundations which consists of 4 sub departments. The main goal of the new department is to serve as competence centre for material technology and corrosion protection across the offshore wind organisation and throughout the entire value chain of developing, building and operation our offshore wind farms. Currently the department hosts strong competencies around steel and coating and the overall aim is to broaden the range of services provided by the department to include other materials and other corrosion protection technologies. Generally, the Department for Material Technology and Corrosion Protection is responsible for assessing steel and other materials applied in our windfarms, including verification of product quality and manufacturability. The department furthermore contributes to design of our foundations, supports our running assets and drives development of new technologies.

As our new Head of Department one of your first tasks will be to develop the detailed strategy for the new department in terms of both competencies and capacity in cooperation with the leadership team in the foundations area.

Your job
As Head of Department your main responsibility will be to lead and develop the team of highly specialised engineers and ensure high engagement and high performance. You will be part of the leadership team in the foundations area and will contribute to initiatives across the organisation. Managing interfaces to our external stakeholders in other parts of BU Offshore Wind will be a key part of your role as well.

Your tasks will include:
• Develop and implement a detailed strategy for the Department for Material Technology and Corrosion Protection
• Recruitment of new employees
• Drive engagement of the team to ensure high performance and a low employee turnover
• Promote and exercise technical authority, update and develop our technical standards and support technical decision-making within the core technical area of the department
• Organise efficient supervision of manufacturing at site using support from external consultants
• Contribute actively to the continued development of the foundations area as part of the leadership team

Your profile
You probably have an educational background as engineer in a relevant technical field and have previously worked with leadership as line manager for technical teams.
To excel in the position, you need a genuine interest in people and a high level of empathy. Furthermore, you have an innovative mind-set and can see yourself working in a department where we value entrepreneurship, a pragmatic approach and helpfulness in our daily work.

The following specific qualifications are important for this position:
• M.Sc. or equivalent in a relevant technical area
• Experience from leading technical teams
• Strong commercial mindset and excellent communication skills
• Experience from the offshore wind industry is appreciated
• Proficiency in English
