We are looking for a Senior Lead Engineer – Primary Systems to work within our Business Area Wind, Offshore, Engineering.

The Engineering department is the technical know-how centre within Business Area Wind, setting the standards and guidelines as well as being embedded within our projects to drive technical excellence through the whole project lifecycle.

Working within the Electrical Infrastructure & SCADA department of Engineering, the Senior Lead Engineer for Primary Systems shall be responsible for the technical leadership of all AC primary electrical systems across the offshore business, ranging in voltage from 33kV to 400kV. The scope of primary system scope includes transformers, circuit breakers, harmonic filtering as well as passive and dynamic reactive compensation systems.

You will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership of all high voltage Primary Systems comprising both Passive and Active scope areas.
  • Overall Technical Authority for High voltage active systems across portfolio of wind farms and full lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of work processes, technical topics and standards within Engineering spanning the entire BA wind portfolio.
  • Lead technical investigations on asset performance/optimisation and equipment failures.
  • Ensure maintenance of technical excellence and control of IP/Patent environment in association with R&D.
  • Provide HSE leadership through ensuring in is inherent in the design and process for all products and systems within scope area.
  • Act as approving authority for technical documentation related to the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance procedures across high voltage primary system scope.
  • Identify competency gaps within department and seek resourcing solutions (internal and external) to maintain and build range of technical capability.
  • Act as Vattenfall technical ambassador for industry events/consultations relating to scope area.
  • Support team members to inject technical leadership into all stages of the project lifecycle, monitoring and controlling levels of technical variation within Product/Project portfolio and building learnings into standardisation strategy and processes.
  • Act as a mentor for colleagues in scope area. Demonstrate technical leadership and drive beyond normal job responsibilities.

Your background:

  • Extensive experience within transmission/distribution systems up to extra high voltage level.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of a wider range of substation high voltage AC equipment and system integration for both onshore and offshore substations.
  • Experience in the design, delivery and operation of transmission/distribution substations.
  • Ability to identify and lead key technical topics relating to high voltage transmission systems, balancing both technical and commercial imperatives.
  • Act as reviewer of key technical documentation. Ability to take decisions in field of responsibility.
  • Participate in and, on occasion, lead technical investigations into equipment failures.

Location:
Choice of Vattenfall locations at Hamburg, London or Kolding.

In addition, we have a clear strategy to develop our solar PV and battery operations further.
