We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Assistant to join the Yeast Metabolic Engineering groupt at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability. Our research focus is metabolic engineering of yeast cell factories for sustainable production of chemicals from renewable feedstocks.

The candidate will be associated with several research projects in the lab and will work together with PhD students and PostDocs. This will bring the candidate into contact with a wide array of research projects and enable to develop a range of skills. In addition to the experimental work, the candidate will support the group with some administrative tasks.

Responsibilities and tasks
Your work will involve advanced synthetic biology techniques, yeast strain construction, screening and fermentation as well as protein expression and purification. Experience with the following is an advantage:

  • Proficiency with sterile microbiology work and molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, DNA sequence analysis, agarose gel electrophoresis, transformation, etc.)
  • Experience with HPLC analysis
  • Computer proficiency, including a working knowledge of DNA analysis software
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment ability
  • Ability to work independently and meet the deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent written and oral English
  • Team spirit and excellent collaboration skills
  • Well-organized, efficient, result-oriented, excellent record keeping abilities

Previous experience with yeast genetic engineering is a plus.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a MSc degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology or similar. The ideal candidate takes pride in delivering consistent results, is a fast learner and is able to adapt quickly to the changing projects.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position is temporary and the period of employment is 6 months.
