Postdoc in Single Cell Microfluidics – project Micrograd

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Ph.d. & forskning

Frist 29. februar 2020

A 2-year postdoctoral position is open in the “Nanofluidics and Bioimaging” group at the Department for health technology, DTU Health Tech, starting on 1 May 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter, in the project MICROGRAD: A new generation of microfluidics-based methods to study genetic and functional effects of complex spatiotemporal gradients in tumor microenvironments.

The topic of the post doc project is microfluidics for single cell genomics.

The vision for the Post Doc position is to establish a microfluidics platform for single cell culture and imaging.

The project builds upon previous work in the group with microfluidics for single cell genomics in the EU projects Cellomatic. We encourage the applicant to look at our past publications: Nanofluidics and Bioimaging.

The project is a highly interdisciplinary collaboration between four groups, located at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen (Prof. Albin Sandelin, Prof. Stine F. Pedersen,), the Technical University of Denmark (Assoc. Prof. Rodolphe Marie) and Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, Berlin (Prof. Ute Resch-Genger). The candidate will be based in Rodolphe Marie’s group, but will work closely with the two other postdoctoral fellows hired in parallel in the Falsig Pedersen and Sandelin groups. Together, the groups employ multiple postdocs, PhD students, and undergraduate students and provide a strong, international research environment.

Responsibilities and tasks
As a postdoctoral fellow, you will be part of the Nanofluidics and Bioimaging group led by Associate Professor Rodolphe Marie.

You’re primary responsibility will be to drive interdisciplinary experimental research rooted in material sciences with applications in life sciences. Your experimental work will involve working with microfabrication, including microfluidics design, prototyping of microfluidics devices using 3D printing, PDMS and injection molding. Possibly, you will also have to make finite element simulations to assist the designing of the microfluidics but this is not the main focus of the position. It will be part of your responsibility to implement cell culture in the fabricated microfluidics platform and to make quantitative fluorescence measurements. Finally, part of the position is to supervise student projects in the lab (BSc and MSc level).

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent in material sciences or physics with a strong background in experimental work and possibly with experience in micro- or nanofabrication. Previous hands on experience with biology or cell culture will be appreciated.
