At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Computer Science, a PhD stipend is available within the general research programme Computer Science. The stipend is open for appointment from March 15, 2020 or soon thereafter. The Department of Computer Science features a broad range of synergistic activities within research and education in the general area of computer science, including curiosity-driven research and targeted research in collaboration with industrial partners, as well as traditional university education, with a unique problem- and project-based focus, and continued education and knowledge dissemination.

Job description
One PhD stipend in Computer Science is available at the Center for Data-Intensive Systems (Daisy), Department of Computer Science, Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark. The appointment will start March 15, 2020 or soon thereafter.

The recruited PhD student is expected to conduct research on the topic of refinement and analytics of indoor location uncertainty. As a requirement of the PhD recruting by AAU, an applicant should prepare a 2-page project description (research proposal) on the topic.

Requirements for the PhD position:
* A master degree in computer science or a closely related field
* Strong programming skill
* Good communication skill and team spirit
* Good English skill, both oral and written

A PhD position at AAU lasts for 36 months, including a 6-month overseas research stay. The annual pretax salary is approximately DKK 350,000 (ca. EUR 47,000).

The database research faculty in Daisy (http://daisy.aau.dk) primarily conduct research on topics such as data-intensive systems and platforms, spatio-temporal data management, data mining and analytics, as well as applications of machine learning related to these topics. According to multiple international evaluations, the research performance places Daisy among the world leaders in its core areas.

The department (http://www.cs.aau.dk) offers office and computing facilities, secretarial support, and support for conference travel. The area of Aalborg features relatively low cost of living, clean air, beautiful forests and beaches, and very good transportation infrastructure. PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Technical Doctoral School of IT and Design in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.

The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Technical Faculty of IT and Design will make a decision for allocating the stipend.

Appointment and salary as a PhD fellow are according to the Ministry of Finance Circular of November 10, 2015 on the Collective Agreement for Academics in Denmark, Appendix 5, regarding PhD fellows, and with the Ministry of Finance current circular on the employment structure at Danish Universities.
