Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Circuit Biology
Lundbeck Neuroscience is looking for a highly motivated Senior Scientist with strong drive to discover new treatments for diseases of the central nervous system. The main responsibility of the Lundbeck neuroscience organization is to identify and validate drug targets and support development of these candidates using cell and animal-based readouts, to deliver strong translational packages to the clinic. The organization is divided into four departments; Signal Transduction, Cell Biology, Physiology and Symptoms, and Circuit Biology. This position is within the Circuit Biology Department, which consists of an international team of around sixteen members including scientists, laboratory technicians and students.

Your job:
You will directly contribute to advancing the Lundbeck pipeline, by improving understanding of the compartmental distribution and consequences of target engagement of our novel compounds and biologics. You will work in a collaborative environment to design and execute in vivo experiments involving both acute and chronic sampling and biochemical analysis of brain tissue, CSF, and plasma from preclinical animal species. You will help our teams to develop CSF and plasma-based biomarkers for novel therapeutics while expanding understanding of blood brain barrier biology and receptor mediated transcytosis. In this role you will have opportunity to mentor technicians and junior scientists, while also leading cross functional research teams.

We Offer:
The opportunity to join an innovative team of highly qualified colleagues working in an industrial scientific setting who are dedicated to high quality pre-clinical in vivo research. Lundbeck is a global pharmaceutical company with approximately 5,300 employees in more than 50 countries specialized in psychiatric and neurological disorders.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work independently within a collaborative environment to investigate in vivo compartmental distribution of novel biologics and small molecules in the brain
  • Design, perform, analyze, present and report experiments aimed at establishing target engagement and disease-related biomarker assays
  • Contribute intellectually to the development of strategies to mitigate the protective actions of the blood brain barrier for better CNS drug distribution
  • Oversee and mentor technicians and students
  • Uphold high ethical standards regarding animal work and experimental reporting

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in neuroscience or related field with track record of success as an academic or industry scientist
  • >3 years relevant experience beyond degree studies, either as Postdoctoral Fellow or Industry Scientist
  • Clear ability to work independently and drive projects to completion
  • Excellent communication, organization and presentation skills
  • Team player and individual contributor able to handle multiple tasks and deliver high quality results within defined timelines
  • Strong experience with in vivo experimentation in rodents including both in-life and terminal tissue sampling as well as survival surgeries

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: blood brain barrier biology, biologic-based therapeutic development, CSF or plasma-based biomarker assays, microdialysis in brain, protein aggregation based in vivo ‘seeding’ assays
  • Experience working within an industry setting
  • Experience working with CROs
