Associate Professorship in Digitalization, co-design and senior citizens

The Digital Design Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invites candidates for an Associate Professorship in Digitalization, co-design and senior citizens. The proposed starting date is 1 November 2020 or soon thereafter.

We invite applicants who want to contribute to the IT University’s vision of creating and sharing knowledge that is profound and leads to ground-breaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity, and to contribute to the research profile of the department. The Digital Design Department consists of approximately 85 skilled and engaged educators and researchers with an interest in digital design. The research combines design thinking with technological tools, material exploration, digital media and co-design (see https://www.itu.dk/forskning/institutter/institut-for-digital-design-ny).

Job Description
The candidate should have a relevant background in digital design, co-design or participatory design. Moreover, strong qualifications in qualitative research including approaches into the socio-cultural aspects of the use of co-design and participatory design is important for this position. To be considered, candidates should be able to demonstrate research and teaching qualifications in two or more of the following areas:

  • Theories and methods related to the understanding of digitalization processes and user groups
  • Co-design and participatory design applied in relation to digital platforms
  • The interplay between citizens, digital tools and public sector institutions
  • Senior citizens and marginalized groups in digitalized societies

At the Digital Design Department, we have a broad understanding of digitalization and co-design. In the context of this position, we seek candidates who have strong interest and experience in working with senior citizens and their relationship to digital technologies. We seek candidates who use co-design or participatory design to design future solutions as well as to interact and facilitate dialogue between users. A good candidate is someone who is interested in people and the interplay with digital technologies but also motivated to describe the impacts and consequences digitalization may have on society at large.

Applicants should provide a research plan explaining the research they wish to pursue in the position as Associate Professor. Applicants should also be able to carry out research-based teaching and supervision in a variety of subjects related to digitalization and co-design, design and user practices on both bachelor and master level.

The ideal candidate should document:

  • Publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer-reviewed venues
  • Competences in developing and conducting teaching that is well received by students
  • A record of contributing to the goals of institutions in which he/she has worked, for instance participation in committees or boards.

In addition, candidates for the position should be able to:

  • Supervise PhD students
  • Attract external research funding
  • Read/speak a Scandinavian language (or have the willingness to learn Danish)

General information
The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based tertiary institution concerned with information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. The IT University has more than 160 full-time academics. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities which involve computers including computer science, information and media sciences, humanities and social sciences, business impact and the commercialization of IT.

The associate professorship is a permanent position. The position requires academic qualifications at PhD level.

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

  • A motivated application, including a cogent argument for how qualified you are for the position and brief statements of research and teaching plans
  • A full CV, including name, address, phone number, e-mail, previous and present employment and academic background
  • Documentation of academic degrees (copy of degree certificates etc.)
  • 5 publications relevant to the position.
  • A numbered list of publications. The enclosed publications should be marked with an asterisk (*)
  • Documentation of pedagogical experience and teaching record within one or more of the teaching areas listed for the position
  • Preferably documentation of both a) received observation and feedback on teaching, b) pedagogical training courses as a teacher, c) a formal written assessment of teaching competence and d) a teaching record within one or more of the teaching areas listed for the position.

The applicant will be assessed according to the Appointment Order from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of 13 March 2012.

The IT University may use shortlisting in connection to the recruitment process. In case of shortlisting, the Chairman of the hiring committee selects applicants for assessment in consultation with the hiring committee after the application deadline. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The shortlisting of candidates for assessment is based on the criteria in the job posting.
