Teaching assistant professor / teaching associate professor in creative coding, data visualisation and interaction design at KADK

Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademis Skoler for Arkitektur, Design og Konservering

Teaching assistant professor / teaching associate professor in creative coding, data visualisation and interaction design
The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation (KADK) invites applications for a three-year part-time position as a teaching assistant professor / teaching associate professor within the field of creative coding, data visualisation and interaction design.

The vacancy, which is affiliated with Institute of Visual Design, should ideally be filled as of 1 October 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

We are looking for a strong, professional profile with great enthusiasm for and experience in working with creative coding or computational design, and who can contribute to strengthening teaching and research within these fields in dialogue with KADK's and IVD's other research and practice fields, which connect science, professional practice and artistic research.

We wish to expand our design degree programme toward a digital and technological age where the creation of graphic and visual products increasingly depend on code, data and programming.

In strengthening this area, the ambition is to ensure that students are not only better equipped for a digital design field, but that they also use code, data and programming in their creative work, which spans from graphic design, visual communication, typography, UX, experience design, and interaction design to the design of games and installations.

We are therefore looking for a teaching assistant professor / teaching associate professor who can use their experience from practice, including the most recent knowledge about methods and technology, to add topical professional weight by teaching students, especially in prototyping and experiments with both spatial, physical digital products and digital interfaces, taking their starting point in professional practice as well as artistic and critical practice.

Institute of Visual Design
The Institute of Visual Design (IVD) educates tomorrow's designers and conducts research at the highest level within visual media, typography, graphic design and graphic identity, as well as games and interaction design. We develop new design methods that equip students with comprehensive innovative and strategic competences, enabling them to take responsibility for complete solutions and processes. We build bridges between a strong Danish design tradition and our technological, digital present and future. Working with an artistic design practice and state-of-the-art technological possibilities, we involve the surrounding world in our work with the development of design proposals and the propagation of design solutions that promote the good life and a sustainable future.

The Institute of Visual Design has some 200 students and about 25 teachers and researchers. The degree programme consists of a Bachelor's degree in Visual Design, which is divided into two study lines – Visual Communication, and Games and Interaction Design. The two Master's programmes are Graphic Communication Design, and Visual Games and Media Design.

In terms of research, the institute focuses on transforming visual design into the paradigms of the 21st century. Evidence-based research in graphic design is conducted via the Centre for Visibility Studies, which employs modern technology to study graphic design and typography in relation to readability. Research also studies new ways of reading signs and symbols in a digital age. Finally, the institute has a strong games and interaction environment with a particular focus on visual design for games, moving pictures, visual storytelling, and storyworld design.

The selection will be based on a complete assessment of which applicants comply best with the criteria in the job advertisement based on the forwarded application material. In your application with appendices, you should therefore ensure that you document your compliance with the qualification requirements described in the job advertisement.

All applicants will then be notified of whether their application has been forwarded for assessment, and the selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the committee.
