Research assistant at Aarhus University, Department of Environmental Science, Section for Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology

Aarhus Universitet (AU)

Based on a project of the Environmental Protection Agency of Denmark on emissions of quaternary ammonium compounds (quats) AU-Environmental Science is searching for a research assistant for 2 years. The position is vacant from October 1, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The respective candidate is expected to update analytical methods and validate those perform chromatographic and isotopic pattern recognition to discriminate products, identify transformation products, quantify quats in stormwater, wastewater and surface water as well as in sewage sludge. Finally, the candidate is expected to publish the results and to report to the environmental protection agency.

The candidate must have a master in natural or technical science and combine analytical chemistry with environmental chemistry knowledge. Ideally, the candidate should have experience in quantifying biocides as well as identifying transformation products. A precondition for this is massive experience in environmental analytical chemistry, especially HPLC-MS/MS, if possible with high resolution. Experiences in extraction procedures from water and sediment/sludge would be advantageous, as well as calculating reaction kinetics and a good control on sorption, diffusion and leaching processes. Also of advantage would be experiences in developing software (R scripts) for peak and pattern recognition. International experience as well as working in a multinational environment and knowledge on regulations on biocides would be a plus. As samples from surface waters need to be taken, a drivers license would be important.
