Postdoc position in structural biology

We are seeking applicants for a postdoc position in structural biology to join us at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics for pursuing structure determination of a receptor-ligand complex.

Starting Date and Period
The position is for a starting period of 5 months and is available from 1st of August 2020 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Job description
The project concerns structural studies of immunoglobulin E (IgE ). Structure determination will take advantage of single particle cryo-EM.

Your profile
Applicants should hold a PhD in molecuar biology, biochemistry, nanotechnology, biomedicine or related field.

Candidates with experience in single particle EM will be preferred, but prior experience with other structural biology techniques is also considered positive.

Applicants should be self-driven and capable of planning and conducting own research while willing to collaborate closely in an international team. Good communication skills in written and spoken English language are essential, and candidates should have a good publication record with clear contributions as first author. The maintenance of a complete digital laboratory journal will be mandatory.

Who we are
The project is carried out in an interdisciplinary collaboration between the two research team of Professor Gregers Rom Andersen (structural biology) and Associcate professor Edzard Spillner (allergy and antibody technology). The teams are located nearby enabling daily collaborative efforts and fast communication and frequent informal discussions.

  • Access to a well-equipped research infrastructure for protein expression and protein purification in the two research teams.
  • Membership of a large structural biology community formed by 8 individual groups with >60 active students, postdocs, and group leaders with a proven track record for excellence spanning more than 20 years.
  • Access to 300 kV Titan microscopes, an existing with a Gatan K2 detector and a new with a K3 detector. There is also access to negative stain EM for sample optimization on a Technai microscope
  • a research climate inviting lively, open and critical discussion within and across different fields of research
  • a working environment with teamwork, close working relations, network activities among young scientists and social activities

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range
Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
