International Tenure Track Assistant Professorships

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a number of vacant International Tenure Track Assistant Professorships at the Department of Digitalization.

The Department of Digitalization cares about the interaction of people, data and technology in all of its manifestations. We study how individuals, groups, organizations and society can grow and prosper by capitalizing on digital technologies.

The departments research is organized to create opportunities for collaboration and to accommodate for the fast moving pace and radical innovation that characterizes the IT field. The faculty organizes its activities in research themes. Themes are emergent, topical, inter-disciplinary and dynamic in nature.

The Department of Digitalization is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. Our aspirations are equally grand for our research and for our degree programmes. The Department of Digitalization had a strong position in the Information Systems community and ranks 1st in Europe and 5th worldwide in terms of publications in the AIS Senior Scholars’ ‘Basket of Eight’ journals. The vision of the department is to participate in impactfulcollaboration with representatives from industry and society through engaged scholarship.

Teaching responsibilities of the department comprise undergraduate and graduate teaching in Bachelor in Business Administration and Information Systems, MSc in Business Administration and Information Systems, MSc in Data Science, and the MSc in IT (eBusiness).

The assistant professorship is a tenure track position (up to 6 years) with research and teaching obligations.

To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant(s) chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department. The successful applicant is obliged to participate in the assistant professor program at CBS on teaching principles and methods in order to fulfill the pedagogical requirements made at the end of the term of employment as assistant professor.


  • Teaching and associated examination in existing CBS programs, including Executive Education
  • Individual and group based research meeting high international standards
  • Promoting CBS’s academic reputation
  • Initiating, fund raising and coordinating research projects
  • Promoting the teaching and research capabilities of Copenhagen Business School and other relevant assignments at Copenhagen Business School
  • Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the department and to CBS-wide tasks
  • Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBS’s stakeholders in particular
  • Research, including responsibility for the academic development of the relevant discipline
  • Responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching
  • Active participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences.

​The assistant professor is expected to contribute to the development and application of the research of the department’s research areas and to maintain and strengthen CBS’s international research position.


The applicant must hold a PhD or the equivalent. Emphasis is placed on the applicant’s research potential, which means that a researcher with a large research potential may be preferred to a researcher with a large research production.

The applicant must have professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Tenure Criteria at DIGI

Tenure criteria are based on the department’s focus on



xternal funding,

cademic citizenship and

issemination. The specific tenure requirements are based on a holistic assessment of the fulfilling of the REEAD criteria.

REEAD expectations at DIGI

The overall requirement is that the TT candidate develops a distinct academic profile and demonstrates academic autonomy. To achieve these requirements the candidate must:

  • Demonstrate ability to develop a portfolio of research contributions that illustrates a distinct academic profile. The portfolio must reflect significant impact in the research community.
  • Demonstrate ability to build collaboration with senior coauthors as well as demonstrating skills in publishing single authored publications.
  • Publish in those journals recognized by the department as central to the profile of the department. Specifically, the TT candidate must target the Basket of 8 journals along with journals of high quality related to the chosen academic profile. The publication portfolio should demonstrate the distinct profile of the candidate and the majority of the publications should be in journals ranked at the AJG-list level 3 and above. For TT candidates affiliated with the Centre for Business Analytics publications should meet the specific academic requirements of the Computer Science domain and majority of the publications should be from top-ranking Computer Science journals such as IEEE, ACM etc. Journals.
  • Publish at and attend conferences and academic events with a high reputation within the academic profile of DIGI.
  • Demonstrate interest and capabilities in teaching subjects related to aspects of digitalization. These capabilities must be reflected in the level of satisfaction in student-evaluations and in the alignment of the candidate’s approach to teaching with principles of effective pedagogic design.
  • Demonstrate ability in independently developing, conducting and administering course activities integrating elements of blended learning.
  • Complete the Assistant Professor programme in Teaching in Higher Education.
  • Demonstrate experience and/or interest in generating and participating in externally funded research projects and teaming up with colleagues with similar academic profiles in research projects hosted at the department.
  • Positively and actively participate in the department’s research activities and events. The TT candidate must show ability to engage constructively in academic discussions and demonstrate interest in attracting relevant collaboration partners to the extended network of the department.
  • Establish a recognized position in the research community by actively contributing to academic citizenship activities such as reviewing and organising and participating in workshops and events.
  • Show ability to effectively and with impact communicate research to practitioners and external stakeholders.

A mid-term evaluation is done to help the candidate assess their progress towards tenure and provide candidates with advice on how to proceed.

    • Copies of the publications marked with an *. Only publications written in English (or another specified principal language, according to research tradition) or one of the Scandinavian languages will be taken into consideration.

    Recruitment procedure

    The Recruitment Committee will shortlist minimum two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.

    The applicants selected for assessment will be notified about the composition of the Assessment Committee and later in the process about the result of the assessment.

    Once the recruitment process is completed each applicant will be notified of the outcome of their application.
