Postdoc for NNF Exploratory Synergy Project: A Wearable AI Feedback Tool for OCD Treatment and Research

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Virksom - a-kasse og faglig organisation for selvstændige

Frist 20. juli 2020

DTU Compute would like to invite applications for a 2-year Postdoc position starting September 1, 2020, or as soon as possible hereafter. The position is financed by a Novo Nordisk Exploratory Interdisciplinary Synergy Programme and is part of a collaboration with the Research Unit of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Centre (CAMHC) at the Psychiatry Department of the Capital Region of Denmark. The project will be conducted in close collaboration between the two research units. The hired Postdoc will work directly with a senior researcher from CAMHC.

The Postdoc will be hosted in the Statistics and Data Analysis Section at DTU Compute. Our Section has strong research in industrial statistics, big data and machine learning techniques and a good collaborative environment.

The project aims to improve assessment and psychotherapy for pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) through developing an artificial intelligence tool to support, patients, parents and therapists in cognitive behavioral therapy. The pilot study involves a wearable ‘Wrist Angel’ that can help by using passive biosensing and machine learning techniques to predict OCD episodes and pave the way for suitable interventions.

In parallel with data from the sensing wrist device, voice data from therapy session videos is available as well as biochemical samples of saliva, which may serve as a marker for the current level of family accommodation.

This project will target signal processing, behavioral informatics and machine learning needed for succeeding in predicting relevant mental states and interventions. The methods could include acoustic features, skin conductance responses, deep neural nets as well as simpler machine learning methods when less data is available and transfer learning is infeasible.

Responsibilities and tasks
You will be responsible to undertake research as described above. In order to encourage collaboration between you and the senior researcher at the CAMHC, we will ensure work space at both units.

Further responsibilities include:

  • You will also have opportunities to develop your teaching skills in our distance learning and continuing education programs through short courses offered primarily to industry.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree within data analytics, machine learning or similar.

You must have a very strong background in machine learning, deep learning, data analysis, mathematical modelling, and computing and if you have practical experience with machine learning methods, sensor analytics, and app development, we highly encourage you to apply. Furthermore, prior knowledge in software packages such as R and Python as well as proficient coding skills will be required. You must be fluent in English, both speaking and writing with great communication and presentation skills.
