Postdoctoral position in shallow seismic investigations at the Department of Geoscience, Aarhus University

Aarhus Universitet (AU)

Virksom - a-kasse og faglig organisation for selvstændige

The Paleoceanography and Paleoclimate Group and SeisLab Aarhus, Department of Geoscience, Aarhus University, Denmark, invites applications for a position in investigation of shallow-seismic data at the postdoctoral level. The successful candidate will be part of a research group studying the Late Quaternary geological, paleoclimate and paleoceanographic development of the NE Greenland shelf. He/she will partake in an international, multidisciplinary team.

The position is part of the GreenShelf project funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF). The position has a fixed term of 2 years, starting as soon as possible.

Job description
The postdoctoral project will focus on investigating the post Last Glacial Maximum history of the NE Greenland shelf based on shallow seismic subbottom profiler data combining the acoustic data with information from marine sediment cores. The successful applicant will map seafloor morphologies (glacial and marine) and sub-seafloor structures across the NE Greenland Shelf and evaluate the relationship between glacial and marine processes in the area since the LGM.
The seismo-acoustic data will be processed using the Innomar ISE post processing software and further analyzed using varying seismic interpretation software at SeisLab Aarhus, such as Kingdom Suite, OpendTect, Petrel or PaleoScan. The NaviSuite software and GIS programs will be used for handling bathymetric data.
Participation in supervision of B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and some classroom teaching is also expected.

Qualifications
The successful applicant will have a PhD in geoscience or related fields. Candidates should have experience in processing and interpretation of reflection seismic data. Experience with seismic-to-well-tie and including sediment information and proxy data will be considered favourably. Similarly, experience with some or all of the above software will be considered an advantage. Also experience in shallow seismo-acoustic data and Quaternary geological aspects would be preferred, but not necessary.

Excellent oral and written English skills are a requirement.
