Adviser on integrated approaches to realising human rights and sustainable development

What we are looking for
We are looking for a new colleague with professional experience of working with human rights, the SDGs or international development and translating them into a country context to contribute to the expansion and consolidation of our agenda-setting work, strategic partnerships and country projects.

You will have experience of working with national partners and facilitating dialogue on sustainable development and/or human rights implementation and monitoring processes, ideally in the African or MENA region. You are able to work well with state and non-state actors alike, including government officials, NHRIs, civil society organizations and communities. You have a good understanding of what it takes to achieve results in complex country contexts. You are curious, creative and have strong communication skills.

Your qualifications and competencies


  • Professional or educational background in Human Rights or International Development and in -depth knowledge of the interlinkages between human rights and sustainable development
  • Knowledge of the relevant national and international monitoring and reporting mechanisms for sustainable development and for human rights and how they play out in a country context
  • Experience of working with national-level actors to implement human rights standards and/or sustainable development frameworks
  • Experience of building networks, collaborations, dialogue and programmes at national level with different actors.
  • Experience of networking and advocacy, including at regional and international levels
  • Ability to learn fast and to work with a variety of stakeholders
  • Fluency in English


  • Good understanding of human rights and SDG indicators and data
  • Experience of working in the African and/or MENA region
  • Experience of integrating gender into programmes and projects
  • Experience of capacity-building work (such as designing and implementing face-to-face or virtual workshops, webinars and developing e-learning materials)
  • Experience of working with the international organisations is an asset
  • Ability to work in Arabic or French

About the team
You will be part of the Data and Accountability programme at the Danish Institute for Human Rights. It consists of a small and newly established team which undertakes innovative work in the interrelated fields of human rights and sustainable development.

We work with strategic partners including UN agencies, national authorities, civil society networks and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) supporting a human rights-based approach to national SDG implementation and monitoring and bringing those experiences to bear on international discussions and policy processes. We develop tools and analysis, engage in global dialogues on sustainable development, build capacity of SDGs and human rights stakeholders, and use human rights data and standards to guide the integration of human rights into SDG-related processes and initiatives around the world.

Conditions of employment
The position is full-time based in Copenhagen with some international travel. Salary is set in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
