Microsoft operates in a highly competitive industry. We the Commercial Markets Strategy Group (CMSG) are leading Microsoft´s Compete efforts around the world, working closely with multifunctional teams and the field to drive our compete motions across products, segments and geographies with the goal of winning market share in current markets and establishing a winning position in future markets. This role also represents the voice of the Field, developing competitive customer and partner insights from the front line that can be used by senior leaders to steer Microsoft’s strategies, and ensures our front line has strong differentiated value propositions and Go-to-Market plays.

Reach: As the Compete Lead, you will drive the Compete strategy and execution within your geography. With a solid understanding of the external market through engagements with analysts, customers, and sellers, you will drive visibility of and urgency in your Subsidiary/Area to ensure Microsoft is ahead of the market and priority competitors. In addition, internally you will drive competitive strategy initiatives and programs to improve Microsoft’s competitive position and muscle. You will also foster a compete culture that focuses on transparency, urgency, continuous learning, and trust.

The Compete Lead is one of very few roles in the company responsible for looking end to end across all products, services, segments, and programs. We are focused on competing effectively across the breadth of our products, technologies, solutions, and services offerings in all customer segments and geographies.

As Microsoft, the market and the competitive landscape transform, we look to you to establish the cross-organizational business practices that allow us to detect competitive trends and market opportunities earlier in their respective lifecycles, and respond to them with greater agility, precision, and insight. We also look to you to drive new behaviors and habits and to ensure best coaching, content and engagements are provided to the field.

Responsibilities
Driving Compete Operating Model across WE (70-90% of time)

  • Lead the compete operating discipline locally to drive share gaining opportunities
  • Listen to the voice of customer, partner, and field through a breadth of listening systems and driving awareness with local and global leadership teams to address challenges, improve experiences and remove sales blockers.
  • Develop and articulate local competitive insights with your Area/Sub leadership, and through the WW channels
  • Drive Win Rooms to gain deal-level compete intelligence and develop action plans to get in front of competitors
  • Drive Compete culture to proactively identify, address and learn from each competitive opportunity
  • Ensure local competitive sales agility through data driven compete motions

Driving Strategic Compete Projects (10-30% of time) Include but not limited to: Designing and landing Compete Plays for specific threads/opportunities, identifying emerging competitive threats and industry inflection points, increasing connections and dialog outside of Microsoft to increase competitive insights and drive market share growth. Translating insights into impactful Go-To-Market plays that land at scale. Sharing of local demonstrated best practices to be rolled out worldwide. Incubating local projects to roll out worldwide.

Qualifications
Experience
An Experienced Field Sales & Marketing Professional, candidates must have a maximum of 5 years full time working experience

Understands unarticulated competitive trends and emerging customer/partner needs, and quickly applies these insights to inform decisions and drive strategy.
  • Masters Complexity: Consistently demonstrates the ability to make the complex seem simple. Capable of breaking down complex issues into concepts that translate across multiple stakeholder groups (e.g., customers, partners, leadership, functions, geos etc.)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. MBA Preferred.
  • Fields of Study include: Marketing, Business Management, Information Technology, Computer Science
