We are seeking an inspirational and purpose-driven leader to spearhead our digitalisation efforts across Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs and Safety (MARS).

Role Purpose
Reporting to the Corporate Vice President of R&D Digitalisation Strategy, you will be responsible for leading the MARS organization on their digital transformation journey. As a trusted strategic advisor and technical expert, you will lead a cross functional team of professionals in enabling the MARS organization to deliver on the vision of driving Novo Nordisk to become the global leader in treating metabolic, cardiac, and liver disease. Specifically, you will

  • Create the vision and design the long-term digitalization strategy for MARS in concert with the overall R&D digital strategy for Novo Nordisk’s drug and device portfolio
  • Successfully guide the MARS organization in adopting this vision and committing to the strategy
  • Successfully motivate and engage a cross-functional team of technology and domain experts across MARS to prioritize and implement specific initiatives on the digitalization roadmap
  • Enable MARS to adapt to new and improved operating models across made possible by digitalization
  • Guide the SVP of MARS and his/her staff in developing and securing approval for the right level of investments required to execute the digitalization strategy
  • Expertly manage the complex interactions between multiple regulatory regimes across the globe and the rest of R&D and manufacturing
  • Drive the alignment of the MARS digitalization model with the rest of R&D and the manufacturing and commercial organizations
  • Enable MARS to create business value through radical improvements enabled by digitalization
  • Enable MARS to reduce regulatory complexity and compliance risk by ensuring the implementation of an efficient, effective, compliant and future-proof digital strategy
  • Influence the external digitalization environment, especially as it relates to MARS


  • In collaboration with MARS, develop and establish best practices for digitalization – from technology selection and implementation to data governance and transparency.
  • Establish strategic partnerships across Novo Nordisk and with external partners to develop a digitalization roadmap and deliver key initiatives on a rapid and reliable schedule
  • Ensure the management and delivery of projects/work streams within agreed budgets and timelines
  • Manage multiple, complex projects and workstreams across MARS, including assessment of workload and resourcing requirements to deliver the team’s objectives
  • Remain accountable to the MARS executive management team on all deliverables related to digitalization across MARS
  • Ensure learnings and best practices are shared across R&D
  • Expertly manage interactions and complex relationships with senior leaders (CVP/SVP/EVP) across the R&D, Commercial, and Manufacturing organizations
  • Liaise with Global IT, R&D (e.g. Global Development), Finance, and The Digital Strategy Office


  • Advanced degree in biological or medical sciences with 15+ years of experience in building and enabling R&D-wide business and digital transformation efforts. MBA from a top-tier school strongly preferred
  • Executive-level expertise in pharma R&D related initiatives at a top-tier global consulting firm
  • Deep domain expertise in Regulatory Science, Drug Safety, Medical Affairs, and the overall drug discovery and development process, especially the late stage development and approval process
  • Demonstrated expertise in simplifying the complexity of MARS by identifying and driving the implementation of process and technology oriented initiatives
  • Proven track record of having supported clinical development and MARS related product development activities
  • Deep understanding of the due diligence and auditing process for technology and content providers. Deep understanding of the QA/QC, GxP and 21CFR11 compliance process
  • Detail oriented with strong organization skills in order to manage and meet deliverables

Preferred Qualification

  • Deep scientific and regulatory expertise with criteria described above
  • Significant experience leading focused global teams of leaders leading other teams

Other Skill Needed

  • Executive level presence and highly developed stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to expertly navigate a complex global organization
  • Proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure quality, timeliness, and on-budget delivery
  • Managerial experience with demonstrated track record of successfully managing high-performance cross-functional matrix teams in a complex organization
  • Deep expertise in developing and leading strategy development processes and workshops. Expertise in Design Thinking methodologies is highly desirable
  • Expert negotiator with the ability to identify and resolve potential conflicts within and across teams
  • Ability to discriminate between critical and non-critical activities and to follow established processes while identifying areas for process improvements
  • Attention to detail with excellent planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
