Operations and Maintenance Package Manager Onshore Wind

Vattenfall A/S

Business Unit Onshore Wind is part of Business Area Wind which is responsible for Vattenfall’s onshore and offshore wind as well as other non-hydro renewable activities like PV/Solar and batteries. Today we develop, construct and operate wind farms Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. In addition, we have a clear strategy to develop our solar & batteries assets further.

Vattenfall is now looking for the right person to fill the position of O&M Package Manager in Business Unit Onshore Wind, within the Day 1 Readiness team, part of Project Delivery. Project Delivery consists, besides Day 1 Readiness, of two other teams; Construction Management and Project Support and a Portfolio Director.

Project Delivery is the department responsible for the construction of onshore wind farms. The Day 1 Readiness team currently consists of six O&M Package Managers. Key interfaces for the role within the project organisation are with the procurement, project and package managers. The O&M Package Manager acts as the project receiver and enables a smooth handover to the project receiver.

What does this mean?

The work of an O&M Package Manager begins during the development phase of a wind farm. The O&M Package Manager supports the project team by determining the O&M strategy for new sites, specifying O&M requirements and supplying the opex and availability assumptions to help build strong business cases, including potential future cost reduction measures.

Then the procurement phase starts. The O&M Package Manager supports the procurement manager with O&M knowledge, towards successful negotiated main construction contracts, such as the wind turbine service and maintenance agreement and the wind turbine supply agreement.

After procurement, the construction phase of the projects starts. The O&M Package Manager provides advice and support to the project manager and package managers in relation to the requirements of the project receiver. The O&M Package Manager is responsible for facilitating the handover process by the integrating information from the project packages. The work of an O&M Package Manager ends at project closure.

An example of an average working week in this role:
We are aiming to place an O&M Package Manager in projects that are in the development, procurement and construction phase. Part of the week you are working from the office to meet with the project receivers and discuss the O&M strategy for the wind farm. You are calculating the budget needed associated with this strategy. Another part of the week you could be on a business trip to meet with suppliers and negotiate the service agreement for the wind farm. You will also find yourself working quite often from home or the construction site, talking to project team members to ensure that information is gathered and progress in underway in order to facilitate a smooth and timely handover of the wind farm; Being Ready for operation on Day 1.

Requirements for the role:
Within Project Delivery we are looking for honest and open individuals with a positive mindset who can work in a team and build strong relationships. Furthermore, we hope to find someone who is proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement and learning for our organisation. Since we work across several countries, good command of the English language (both verbally and written) is important and so is excellent communication skills and ability to lead and influence others. The ideal candidate would have a good understanding of engineering, operations and maintenance and large/complex construction projects. Having experience with wind farm projects would be advantageous.

Our offer
We focus on ensuring a good work/life balance for our team by understanding that people work in different ways and allowing for this. Since we trust team members to manage their own time and still deliver what is expected, we support flexible working to suit each individual’s family situation.

The location of this position is Amsterdam or Stockholm.
