Save the Children is leading work on education in emergencies globally and seeks a passionate Head of Education to manage a dynamic team at its Copenhagen office.

WHAT WE OFFER

The employment will be in the international department in Denmark with 55 colleagues. This position leads the education section, a priority area of focus for Save the Children Denmark (SCD). The main goal for the Education section is to ensure the ongoing development and oversight of SCD’s education programming globally, contributing to education expertise and the delivery of quality education programming, advocacy, and coordination by the SC movement. The Head of Section will represent SCD within Denmark and globally to Save the Children members, SCI, key donors, and technical agencies in the area of education.

The Head of Education line manages two Senior Education in Emergencies (EiE) Advisors and one Education & Youth Officer. While not a direct report, technical line management of one SCI EiE Regional Advisor is also a responsibility of this role.

There will be travel of up to 6 weeks annually, to priority regions or to attend global meetings or events.

YOU WILL

Some of your key task and main responsibilities are to:

  • Lead a highly skilled and professional team of Education experts toward excellence and consistent quality delivery from SCD in the area of education and maintain or establish collaboration with other members of Save the Children globally, SCI, key stakeholders, and key donors and partners.
  • Drive the development and implementation of Education programming, maintaining a solid and current understanding of key issues, established best practice but also trends in the ways of working.
  • Contribute to advocacy programmes regarding education; in coordination with colleagues from SCD and the movement, developing policy briefs and position papers, when required, related to education issues for use within Denmark and globally.

YOUR PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL PROFILE

The relevant candidate has at minimum a master’s degree in education, social sciences or equivalent field. Country-level experience from Education in Emergency is mandatory. Furthermore, the ideal candidate has:

  • Successful track record of leading a highly skilled team of direct reports, including employee development and performance management.
  • 9+ years of work experience in education with demonstrated professional experience in programme design and implementation in a conflict, post-conflict or fragile environments.
  • Proven experience creating and driving the execution of visionary strategies and plans, including proven experience anticipating future consequences and trends accurately and communicating credible visions, possibilities and likelihoods.

We are open to customizing the position slightly, if you bring unique personal and professional experience to SCD that fits with our strategic goals.

In addition to the above points, you have strong organization and coordination skills with the ability to marshal resources (people, funding, material, support) to get things done. You have proven experience juggling multiple activities at once, as well as multiple stakeholders with at times conflicting interests. You communicate clearly and confidently with others to engage, influence and build trust, and you are an excellent team player.

TERMS & RECRUITMENT PROCES

You will be employed according to the terms of individual leader contract Agreement between Save the Children DEnmark and the AC organizations and HK. The position is without limited working hours.
