Postdoctoral position within the project “Patterns of Interaction: Emergence and Consequences”, ICOA, Department of Management

Aarhus Universitet (AU)

Interdisciplinary Centre for Organisational Architecture (ICOA), Department of Management at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a 3-year postdoctoral position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join the project Patterns of interaction: Emergence and Consequences.

The starting date is January 2021, or subject to mutual agreement. Application deadline is October 15, 2020.

The research project
This project examines the nature and emergence of social interactions - and whether and how they can be shaped to facilitate organisational performance. By focusing on how formal and informal structures shape the formation of realised interactions, the project builds on, and extends, an emerging stream of literature within the area of Organisational Design. Using advanced wearable devices, we will obtain data related to realised interactions, including psychophysiological measurements, enabling insights at a micro-scale level, and with a temporal granularity. We will combine this data with traditional network analysis as well as simulation studies to verify and generalise the empirical findings. The empirical setting for the project is a large financial institution. The project is expected to generate high-quality research.

The project is financed by the Independent Danish Research Council for a 3-year period. The project group includes Professors Dorthe Døjbak Håkonsson, Erik R. Larsen and Christine Parsons from AU, as well as Gianluca Carnabuci and Eric Quintane from European School of Management and technology (ESMT,) Berlin.

Job description
The postdoc will be employed as part of the research group and is expected to devote his/her research time to the project and engage in collaborative research within the focus of the project. The postdoc will be expected to participate in phases of the project from design and data collection to analysis and paper writing. A modest amount of teaching might be possible on the BA or MA programs of the department.

Your qualifications
The candidate must possess strong quantitative skills, including proficiency in for example: R, Python, or similar programs. Knowledge of network analysis or organizational theory or experience with management of large-scale time-stamped datasets are an advantage. Applicants are expected to hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in e.g., management, sociology, cognitive science, economics, psychology or architecture. However, other areas will be considered as long as they are relevant to the project. The project language will be English.

Who we are
