PhD scholarship in Biopolymer Composites

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Frist 28. september 2020

The PhD project will be conducted in collaboration between Centre for Information Technology and Architecture at KU and the Danish Polymer Centre (DPC) at DTU Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at DTU.

The research field of this PhD position covers formulation of biopolymers and preparation of a range of new biopolymer composites. The main emphasis of the project will be on development and testing of novel biopolymer systems and to evaluate their potential for processing.

Responsibilities and tasks

The overarching objective for this PhD project will be to develop new formulation systems by blending of commercially available raw materials for easy processing. The project is intended to work on blends and a broad range of composite systems, employing accelerated screening methods as well as classical test and characterization methods.

  • You should be interested in working at an interphase, where you will get the opportunity to combine the fields of materials science, polymer blends and composites as well as characterization with advanced IT methods.
  • You will be responsible for development of a range of formulations that should be tested in close collaboration with our collaborators.
  • We expect you to be curious and motivated towards developing a new field in close interaction with industry and researchers from academia.
  • A good candidate should have a thorough knowledge of polymers, and preferably some experience in working with designing polymer blends or composites. In addition, a solid background in laboratory based work is appreciated.
  • As part of the position, you will also be expected to work as a teaching assistant in theoretical and practical courses at the department.
  • You should be interested in and open to interaction with students at all levels during your PhD, since supervision of student projects will be expected as part of the project.

Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

Approval and Enrolment

The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see the DTU PhD Guide.
