Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) is seeking an internationally accomplished academic and administrative executive director of AIAS, at Aarhus University (AU).

AIAS was founded in 2013. The mission of AIAS is to advance research of the highest quality at AU by attracting talented, highly qualified fellows worldwide and across all disciplines. AIAS provides ideal opportunities to further develop the research of its fellows and ensure their participation in collaboration and exchange with scientists and research groups at AU. AIAS fellowships run for periods of six months to three years, and AIAS currently has a capacity of 35 fellows.

Qualifications
AIAS is seeking an accomplished academic and administrative leader who will provide a dynamic leadership of AIAS, further establish it as an international institute for excellence in research, and consolidate it as a globally visible intellectual center for talent development and recruitment of excellent scientists. The executive director must be an internationally renowned researcher with a strong commitment to talent development, and strong communicative and leadership skills.

Areas of responsibility
The executive director creates a strategy for AIAS to take it into the next decade, and develops programs to promote joint development and exchange of ideas and research results. The executive director also maintains and develops connections to AU´s research environments and centers of excellence at AU´s departments, oversees recruitment processes, manages a significant operating budget, develops a plan for further fundraising, and supervises a small, highly qualified team of administrators with reference to the executive director. The executive director represents AIAS to a variety of stakeholders internally at AU, as well as externally. Furthermore, the executive director works to ensure diversity and gender equality at AIAS.

Employment conditions
The executive director will be hired in accordance with the agreement for academics in Denmark between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

The executive director will be hired on a fixed-term contract, for a period of up to 6 years, with an option of extension for up to 3 years.

Appointment procedure
Applications, including CV, list of publications, and documented leadership experience must be received no later than 30 September 2020 and should be submitted online via AU´s website https://www.au.dk/om/stillinger/.

Interviews (rounds 1 and 2) are expected to be held in late October 2020, and second round applicants will be requested to participate in a management assessment. The appointment is expected from 1 January 2021, or as soon as possible after that date.
