Assistant professor in crop disease management

Aarhus University, Science and Technology, invites applications for a 4-year assistant professor position at the Department of Agroecology, starting no later than January 1st 2021.

Research areas
The successful candidate will be part of a team working on disease management and fungicide resistance in arable and vegetable crops with major focus on foliar and seed-borne diseases in cereals, sugar beet and oil seed rape and fungicide resistance. The candidate will be responsible for planning and conducting experiments involving chemical and non-chemical control of diseases. Microbials and other low-risk products are expected to receive increasing importance in the coming years. Evolution of fungicide resistance is another focal point involving monitoring, sensitivity testing and molecular screening for target gene interactions. Studies will involve growth chamber, greenhouse and field experiments. Besides research activities, the candidate will also be involved in policy support related to disease management and fungicide resistance. Our group is involved in several national and international focused projects mainly within disease management and fungicides resistance. Since we wish to consolidate international activities, the right candidate will get the opportunity to apply for a senior position after 4 years, e.g., based on publication record, teaching qualifications and ability to develop new innovative research projects.
Qualifications

  • PhD degree and post doc research experience within disease management in arable crops dealing with both seed borne diseases and leaf diseases. In additional knowledge in the area of fungicide resistance will be an advantage
  • Documented research experience in crop disease management
  • Documented experience in applying molecular methods
  • Teaching experience at MSc and PhD level
  • Experience in international research collaboration and networking
  • Interest and skills in scientific communication

The Department of Agroecology
At the Department of Agroecology we study interactions between soil, plants, animals, humans and the environment in different agroecosystems for the production of food, feed, biomaterials and energy. Thus, we contribute to both fundamental knowledge generation and the attainment of sustainable production systems via state-of-the-art research, contracted policy advice, and education. We offer state-of-the-art laboratory, green house, semi-field and field scale research facilities, advanced computing capacities as well as an extensive national and international researcher network. The department has a staff of approximately 275 people including 56 senior academics, 37 junior researchers and postdocs as well as 56 PhD students. More information can be found here.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
