The Corporate Affairs function The Corporate Affairs function at EIT Health is comprised of External Communications, Events, Internal Communications, Programme Marketing, Public Affairs, the EIT Health Think Tank, Stakeholder Relations ( i.e., strategic alliance development with third party organisations) and the Alumni Network. Together, these activities aim to shape the environment so that it is more conducive to the wider adoption of healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship. They ultimately support EIT Health’s profile and mandate across Europe to improve health outcomes for patients and citizens, build sustainable healthcare systems, and support a strong healthcare economy. EIT Health is a vital instrument of the EU’s Research and Innovation Framework Programme, Horizon Europe, and is an authoritative stakeholder to support meeting European and national healthcare priorities. ABOUT THE ROLE Communications is a core strategic driver for EIT Health that supports the organisation’s growing profile as the Health Innovation Platform in the EU. Value, impact, contribution and benefit, identity, awareness and thought leadership are key areas of focus. Clear, strong and aligned messages, as well as maximising of brand visibility across all activities of our organisation, are fundamental elements of EIT Health’s overall strategy. 1 The Head of External Communications and Events (Central Office) will be responsible for leading the External Communications and Events function at the Central Office, including setting the strategy, overseeing and directly implementing a high performing programme of activity, and managing a talented team of communications and events professionals. Core responsibilities: Overseen by the Director of Corporate Affairs, the Head of External Communications and Events will be responsible for: • Devising annual external communications strategies and tactics that support the overall organisation’s objectives and position EIT Health as a driving force of healthcare innovation in Europe. The external communications strategy is expected to be ambitious, creative, innovative and clearly able to deliver high return on investment through measurable outcome metrics. • Driving high performance, high motivation, and innovation in the delivery of the annual external communications plan, delivering to expert standards by: o Assuming overall accountability for the organisation’s corporate channels (including website and social media) – driving an inspiring, informative, and engaging content strategy, and overall strong digital positioning and performance (such as user experience, search engine ranking, design and functionality etc.). o o Building on, and advancing, the organisation’s narrative, including messages, corporate materials and talking points, to strongly position EIT Health, its business strategy and goals. Devising and delivering the external communications thought leadership activity ( including disseminations activity relating to the outputs of the EIT Health Think Tank), profiling the organisation and its leaders concretely, and demonstrating EIT Health’s value in contributing to the shaping of the healthcare innovation landscape. o o Devising and delivering an ambitious pan-EU media strategy, with an ‘always on’ press office, consisting of both proactive and reactive opportunity spotting, compelling and insightful content, including press releases, feature articles, opinion editorials etc. Providing strategic counsel and support to EIT Health leadership team on media engagement, including conducting media training, securing interview opportunities and providing detailed briefing information. Assuming overall accountability for external events, including the flagship EIT Health Summit and other external events in which EIT Health participates. • • • • Annual financial planning and reporting; with accountability for accurate and detailed tracking systems to monitor spending, procurement, KPIs, invoicing, performance etc. Line management of two talented team members; the External Communications Manager and the Events Lead, and well as the management of agencies and suppliers. Liaising and aligning with other functions to ensure a collaborative and conducive working relationships internally and externally. Horizon scanning and environmental analysis/intelligence to understand opportunities, risks and impediments for EIT Health and direct delivery of any crisis or issues management activity. 2 Experience and skills required • • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject. Minimum 15 years’ experience in an external communications role (in house or agency), with proven ability to perform in a senior, highly visible and international/culturally diverse organisation. • • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to set a clear vision, drive high performance, and create a highly motivated team. Expert knowledge of the healthcare sector, with clear understanding and insight into the role EIT Health plays within, and ability to convert scientific and/or technical concepts to simple and compelling content. EU or public sector experience desirable, but not essential. • Ability to both lead and hands on deliver external communications activity; proven high level ability in strategic planning, content, digital communications, and media relations on a pan European scale and for broad audiences including the general public, medical professionals, business leaders, policy makers, etc. • • Strong influencing, presentation, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to operate and excel in a highly complex organisational structure and operational processes of a growing organisation. Native level English essential. Other relevant criteria: • • High levels of resilience, flexibility and drive for results. Ability to perform effectively under pressure and prioritise and manage a variety of tasks, and to meet deadlines, both prescribed and self-imposed. • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and autonomously as well as collaboratively. • • Proactive, Innovative, and dynamic. A high level of integrity, self-awareness, and confidence.
