Senior Backend Developer (iPaper HQ)

iPaper A/S

Senior Backend Developer
Development · Aarhus C, Østjylland Department

Employment Type

Minimum Experience

At iPaper, we’re tired of seeing endless grids of products when shopping online. We believe there’s a better alternative. We believe that every business selling products should be able to attract, inspire and convert shoppers wanting to look around.

We're looking for an intelligent & passionate senior backend developer to help drive our future development efforts, implementing new features as well as improving our existing codebase. All the while taking on the responsibility as a senior member of our team, by being a catalyst for sharing knowledge and improving our standards on a continuous basis.

  • Are passionate about your craft.
  • Know how to acquire new knowledge and apply it when fitting.
  • Are opinionated but listen to reason, data and sound arguments.
  • Cherish the importance and value in reviewing each other's work.
  • Are driven by a desire to do better, to learn and to help the team.

While we're a Danish company, you don't have to speak Danish at all. However, for practical and legal reasons you need to be located in Denmark and have the legal right to work in Denmark.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Continually expand and maintain our high traffic platform.
  • Helping write and maintain our technical documentation.
  • Helping convert ideas into issues that can be worked on.
  • Writing testable, extensible and maintainable code that scales to hundreds of millions of monthly sessions.
  • Working together with the team to maintain and evolve the backend infrastructure for our existing products.
  • Assisting in our transition from .NET Framework to .NET 6.
  • Writing greenfield applications for our new features in .NET 6.
  • Occasionally venture into the frontend to implement features in HTML and TypeScript.
  • Using the latest of cloud technologies from AWS to deliver new features to our customers.
  • Being part of a team of people in all levels of their career, assisting with mentoring and guidance to ensure a continuous growth in their talents.
  • Doing code reviews of your peers to ensure high code quality.
  • As needed, help out our Site Reliability Engineering team, potentially becoming a hybrid Backend/SRE Engineer. SRE experience is a plus, but not a must. See here for details on what SRE entails at iPaper.

What We Expect from You

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Very skilled in writing C#.
  • Strong debugging skills and can troubleshoot problems, even if the cause is not directly obvious.
  • The ability to plan and time manage your own work during a sprint.
  • Mastery of the SOLID principles and writing clean code.
  • Mastery of object oriented programming and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with various design and architectural patterns and have experience with modern coding practices.
  • Understanding of the importance of writing testable code.
  • Experience with writing secure applications - awareness of OWASP top 10.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases. Knowledge of other database types is a plus.
  • Worked with web applications with many concurrent visitors, and know how to write applications that perform & scale.
  • Experience with Typescript is a plus.
  • Experience with AWS (Lambda, Cloudfront, S3, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience with build tools like AppVeyor and GitHub Actions is a plus.

What We Offer

  • A work-from-anywhere policy that supports balancing remote and on-location work as you prefer.
  • A team of 10 brilliant technical colleagues, some mostly remote, some mostly on-location.
  • No time registration or other classic agency antics.
  • We have a strong focus on quality and want to build things that last, rather than building with the intent of throwing away.
  • A CEO that helped write the first lines of code more than a decade ago and thus understands the technical implications & opportunities in what we do as a business.
  • An established company with a proven track record, with none of the bureaucracy that comes with larger corporations.
  • A very diverse workplace with 35 employees across 11 nationalities.
  • A big focus on culture, emphasized by our dedicated VP of People & Culture.
  • Modern and spacious office in the heart of Aarhus, optimized to support hybrid work and on-location collaboration.
  • To support maximum flexibility, we offer Wolt for lunch at the office - buy what you want.
  • If you're curious and want to see everything else we offer, feel free to take a look at our public employee handbook.

The Constellation

You will report to our CEO, who is also our acting VP of Product. On a daily basis, our Backend Tech Lead will be your go-to person, who will also oversee your onboarding, 1:1’s and career development.

We serve the retail industry, helping them turn printed catalogs, in the form of PDFs, into shoppable experiences. Our 15 years of experience and product development allows us to help some of the largest retailers and direct selling brands in the world. In turn, it follows that our focus is on international enterprise companies, with high requirements to our long term investments in quality, performance and stability.

Founded in 2006, we're no startup. We've done our best to merge the agility of a startup with the luxuries of an established company. We don't like bureaucracy, we're friendly, we're inquisitive and we're dedicated. With 35 employees across 11 nationalities we’re quite a diverse bunch and our corporate language is English. We have a work-from-anywhere policy and we're heavy users of Slack and Zoom to support our remote employees.

We have a modern and spacious office in the heart of Aarhus but still with ample free parking spaces. On top of this, we've got a dedicated fun zone with a wide selection of games as well as a huge terrace (where we like to grill burgers or hotdogs).

We care about our people and our culture and we help each other to succeed every day as a team. We dedicate time to have fun and be social together or throw a party for any occasion! We support initiatives for socializing outside the office, such as our regular running club or our Thursday afternoon round of disc golf.

Instead of resumes and cover letters, simply send us your name, LinkedIn profile and answer a couple of questions, then we will start the conversation from there.

When submitting an application, iPaper will process and store your information for up to three months, with the sole purpose of handling your application.
