Chief Equipment Engineer - DTU Nanolab

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer/technician for the role as Chief equipment engineer in the field of cleanroom based top-down micro- and nanofabrication who is talented in troubleshooting/repairing systems of high complexity.

DTU Nanolab is one of the world´s best-equipped open-access infrastructures within nanofabrication and characterization located at the Technical University of Denmark just north of Copenhagen. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer/technician for the role as Chief equipment engineer in the field of cleanroom based top-down micro- and nanofabrication with talent and flair for troubleshooting/repairing as well as modifying and altering systems of high complexity. You should be safety-minded, self-driven and prepared to solve equipment problems in collaboration with all DTU Nanolab’s equipment groups. Since you will be collaborating closely with the equipment groups, it is important to have a positive and open-minded attitude.

Our cleanroom facility houses more than 150 highly advanced tools. The tools combine many different areas such as high vacuum technology, RF plasma, chemicals and gas-handling systems (toxic and non-toxic), pneumatic control systems, and heating/refrigeration systems. We expect that you are able to navigate and troubleshoot problems in all these areas.

Job description
Improving reliability of the equipment is key so you should be the type of person who likes to get to the root cause of failures and can implement long-term solutions. Your technical knowledge of equipment and installations should be your strength, and you strive to deliver high quality, safe and reliable solutions – also when modifying and adapting equipment to specialized research and development purposes.

For this position, the key tasks include:

  • Maintaining and repairing nanofabrication tools of high complexity
  • Troubleshooting/repair of equipment breakdowns
  • Participate in organizing and prioritizing maintenance and repair tasks
  • Interfacing with vendors for equipment service repairs/troubleshooting
  • Documenting breakdowns, repairs and maintenance tasks
  • Participate in maintaining spare parts inventory
  • Carrying out machine upgrades
  • Keep focus on safe working environment
  • Modifying and altering existing equipment
  • Assist in designing and conceptualizing novel equipment

Qualifications
You should have a minimum of 3 years engineering education in automation, mechatronics or electronics or related technical field (bachelor’s degree or equivalent). We expect that you have a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a broad range of micro/nanofabrication equipment.

We also expect:

  • Experience and expertise in vacuum systems, pneumatic controls, electronics, and gas systems related to semiconductor/device fabrication or similar field
  • Knowledge and extensive experience with cleanroom tools and procedures
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for handling hazardous materials/toxic gasses
  • Ability to execute complex repairs/maintenance work, carefully following written procedures
  • Ability to troubleshoot control electronics at board level

Salary and appointment terms
Salary and appointment terms are in accordance with either the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC), or the OAO-S Joint Agreement and the organization agreement for Laboratory Technicians and IT staff (HK/Stat), for Craftsmen and Technicians, for Engineering Assistants and Research Technicians at research institutions, etc., or other relevant agreement.

The position is permanent and full-time (37 hours per week). Starting date as soon as possible (according to mutual agreement).

The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
