IT-Universitetet (ITU)

The IT University of Copenhagen seeks a part-time Lab Manager for the IxD lab.

The IxD Lab
The IxD Lab is a place where we build ideas. It is a space for working with research questions that demand physical explorations into new forms of interaction and new material and computational expressions.

Job description

The lab manager will be the daily manager of the other lab staff (Part-time lecturers and lab assistants) and will be responsible for recruiting lab assistants.

The Lab Manager is responsible for maintaining the machine park in the IxD lab’s workspace for all non-electronic prototyping. The lab manager is expected to work with academic staff regarding budget management and acquisitions for courses and research and maintain and update the basic material stock in the lab.

The Lab Manager will support research projects that use the IxD lab. This may also include acquiring expertise beyond general fabrication and electronics to provide the necessary support.

The Lab Manager may be required to organize workshops and extra-curricular courses aimed at teaching specific skills, materials, or technologies, preparing the students for their constructive project or exam work, and providing technical and design support.

Finally, the Lab Manager ensures that the IxD lab collaborates with the other design-oriented labs at ITU and the ITU Lab Council.

Competencies
We expect the applicant to have experience participating in research projects and conducting teaching at the university level. The candidate should also have competencies in design, mechanical and product engineering, iterative prototyping of electronics and hardware, including extensive experience using laser cutters and 3D printers, and a broad material understanding.
