Your role and responsibilities
In today’s world, energy supply landscape is changing with fluctuating energy prices and the rise of renewable energy sources. For small and medium-sized industries, this volatility can disrupt operations and drive-up business costs. But with new opportunities in distributed energy suppliers and innovative energy storage technologies, we can take control of the energy optimization. We invite you to tackle one of the most critical challenges of our time: How can we optimize energy flow, improve stability, and design interactive tools that empower future energy managers? Your research will focus on developing smart, user-centered solutions that provide a holistic overview of energy consumption and management. Explore the future challenges that energy managers will face and help us redefine the user experience for more efficient and sustainable energy management. Join us in building the next generation of energy solutions! Details: • Period: Spring 2025, commonly between Jan-July • Number of credits: 30 ECTS/högskolepoäng (hp) • 1-2 students • Location: Västerås. Possibility for hybrid workplace Your responsibilities: • Focus your thesis on researching human factors and usability aspects for the evolving needs of future energy managers • Explore and identify innovative features that address current challenges and future demands • Conduct competitor analysis and usability evaluations of existing energy management solutions • Develop future scenarios that envision the evolving role of energy managers • Create low-fidelity interactive prototypes featuring novel user flows • Develop user guidelines and design implications for next-generation energy management solutions

Qualifications for the role

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Science, Interaction Design, User Experience (UX), or a related field
• Ability to conduct user research and translate insights into design improvements for complex systems
• Familiarity with UX/UI design principles
• Interest in how user interaction can influence energy efficiency and decision-making in industrial environments
• Basic knowledge of data visualization and how to present complex energy data intuitively
• Problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to think holistically about both human and technical aspects of energy management
• Able to approach challenges creatively, integrating user-centered approaches with technological advancements
