Marie Curie PhD scholarship on CO2 Purity - DTU Chemical Engineering

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

We are looking for a PhD candidate at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) for the project MISSION-CCS (Material Science Innovation for Accelerated, Sustainable and Safe Implementation of Carbon Capture and Storage). MISSION-CCS will train 13 Doctoral Candidate Researchers (DCRs) aiming to deliver the next generation of highly trained researchers and entrepreneurs in the field of material science, specifically focused towards accelerating the implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies worldwide.
You are a bright student. We have a scholar ship for you. Marie Curie only takes the most innovative people for a study on important aspect of climate action.

You will be in our group of doctoral candidate researchers (DCRs) who together will solve many of the technical challenges we see for CO2 capture. You will be allocated to our existing team of CO2 researchers of 25 people at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) within the MISSION-CCS (Material Science Innovation for Accelerated, Sustainable and Safe Implementation of Carbon Capture and Storage) project. You will collaborate with the MISSION-CCS team of 13 Doctoral Candidate Researchers (DCRs) aiming to deliver the next generation of highly trained researchers and entrepreneurs in the field of CO2 science, specifically focused towards accelerating the implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies worldwide.

Your PhD project is called DCR4, and you will be investigating the pure CO2 stream produced from CO2 capture. Any potential impurities in the CO2 are corrosive. These impurities could be amine, nitrosamines, NOx, SOx, CO, NH3 and similar types of traces.

There is a need to expand the knowledge of impurities during transportation of compressed and liquefied CO2 under the impact of relevant impurities. The investigations must consider corrosion and lifetime estimation to qualify the materials used for the transportation of CO2.

Secondments to consortium partners are an essential part of the programme. The candidate will have secondments at the University of Leeds in the UK, Institut for Energiteknikk in Norway, and Wood group in UK.

Responsibilities and qualifications
For applicants to the PhD positions, you must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree in disciplines like chemical engineering, applied chemistry, petroleum engineering, or related disciplines.

The MSCA Doctoral Networks Programme further requires that all researchers recruited in MISSION-CCS must:

  • be doctoral candidates (i.e. not already in possession of a doctoral degree at the date of the recruitment)
  • undertake transnational mobility - researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their date of recruitment.
  • Researchers who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will not be considered eligible.
  • For all recruitments, the eligibility of the researcher will be determined at the date of their first recruitment in the action. This status will not evolve over the lifetime of the action, even if they are re-recruited at another beneficiary.

You should have the following qualifications:

  • A strong interest in experimental measurement
  • Experiences with chemical analysis (to be specified) is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics and phase equilibrium is an advantage.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education.

Assessment
The assessment of the applicants will be made by Associate Professor Philip Loldrup Fosbøl.
