Electrochemical Materials and Devices / Development engineer with a focus on electrochemical device testing - DTU Energy
Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)
Electrolysis is a key part of Power-to-X and with an increasing activity in the field of alkaline electrolysis cells, we are looking for a development engineer to further develop our laboratory and ensure high quality measurements.
At DTU Energy we do research and development on energy conversion devices relevant to the green transition. Our research addresses technologies like fuel cells, batteries, solar cells and electrolysis.
Electrolysis is a key part of Power-to-X, to produce green fuels and facilitate the transition to a sustainable energy future, and with an increasing activity in the field of alkaline electrolysis cells, we are looking for a development engineer to further develop our laboratory and ensure high quality measurements.
We are searching for a development engineer to help us ensure the safe and stable operation of the laboratory, guiding and sparring with users and technicians, operate and maintain advanced test infrastructure, as well as participate in developing new equipment.
The job
You will be a part of the Section for Electrochemical Materials with 40 colleagues. You will also interact closely with the infrastructure technical support team with 15 colleagues.
You will be working with technicians and engineers to solve the technical challenges in diverse laboratories used for electrochemical testing and with researchers and students in the development of new experiments and conduction of complex electro-chemical tests.
You will also assist in developing new equipment for other R&D tasks in the department; e.g. designing, commissioning and qualifying new electrochemical test holders and test benches, as well as in carrying out risk assessments and compiling associated documentation.
You will be responsible for the maintenance and upgrading of our elevated pressure electrochemistry laboratory, and contribute to the maintenance and upgrading of diverse electrochemical test setups in other laboratories.
You will be responsible for operating electrochemical testing setups in multiple laboratories, especially setups operating at elevated pressures, and you will be expected to analyze data and compile test reports.
You will be responsible for training new users; BSc/MSc/PhD students and PostDocs in the use of electrochemical test stations.
Emphasis will be on alkaline and anion exchange membrane electrolysis test setups, but may also include flow battery test setups, electrodeposition stations, and more.
Our expectations
Candidates should hold at least a M.Sc. degree in electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering or equivalent. Furthermore, the candidate should have experience in one or more of these areas:
- Construction and operation of experimental test equipment or advanced machinery
- Design and construction of electrochemical test holders and devices
- Electrochemical testing of components and cells for e.g. alkaline electrolysis, anion exchange membrane electrolysis, flow batteries, etc.
- Data logging, analysis, and data management
Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is further considered advantageous:
- Gas handling/Atex
- High pressure and high temperature processes and setups
- Work in an international environment
- Project management
- Hands-on experience (preferably from research lab) with electrical measurements for electrochemical characterization e.g. frequency analyzers for impedance spectroscopy, power supplies used for recording of polarization curves etc.
- experience with documentation, risk-assessments and other administrative tasks related to laboratory management and equipment responsibility
Personal qualities:
- Writing and communication skills in English and preferably also Danish
- Experience and ability to work independently and to plan and carry out complicated tasks
- Ability to be a part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary international work environment and to work close together with Researchers, students as well as Research and Lab technicians
- responsible, sincere, and forthcoming
- driven by challenges, forward looking, and pro-active
- able to accommodate strict time boundaries
We welcome applicants early in their career as well as very experienced engineers.
