Postdoctoral position for a research project in Neurostimulation, Pain and Expectations

Aarhus Universitet (AU)

The Department of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a full-time 3-year postdoctoral position, offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a new research project on spinal cord stimulation and expectations of treatment effects.

The starting date is June 1, 2024 or subject to mutual agreement. The research project
Spinal cord stimulation is offered as a treatment for patients suffering from severe chronic pain. Yet, it is unclear to which extent the effect of the treatment is due to the stimulation and/or the patients’ expectations of a treatment effect. A Clinical trial, using a novel research design, will be conducted to specify the treatment effect in a sample of patients undergoing spinal cord stimulation in clinical practice. A special focus will be given to psychological aspects of pain modulation. The project will be conducted as a collaboration between the Section of Psychology and Neuroscience at Department of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences, Aarhus University, the Danish Pain Research Center at Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, and the Section of Neurosurgery at Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University. The project is expected to generate high-quality research and it is founded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. Job description

The candidate is also expected to contribute to the development of research of high international quality and to disseminate nationally and internationally.

The position is research-oriented but will involve teaching assignments. In your daily work you will work closely with both Danish and international researchers, clinicians and patients.
As postdoctoral fellow you will receive supervision and pedagogical upgrading. Your qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD relevant to the academic areas of Psychology and/or Neuroscience and/or Medicine.

You can carry out research on a high international level and it is considered an advantage if you are first author of publications in recognized international journals. You have experience with research management and might have some experience with team management and you are interested in attracting external research grants. You are ambitious, self-managing, reflective and see an overview of a situation. You are fluent in oral and written English and you have good communication skills.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment. Who we are
