Do you want to join a new team setting up a multi-year international project managed by the Global Protection Unit in HQ? We are looking for a motivated project officer to support the ASPIRE-project, together with the team in Copenhagen, Uganda and support the start-up in Kenya?

Who are we?
ASPIRE: The ASPIRE project is a unique and progressive research project in partnership with UNHCR. The overall objective of ASPIRE is to provide in-depth new knowledge about how young people, affected by the civil war(s) in South Sudan, over time, contribute to peaceful coexistence in their communities. The research will be implemented alongside UNHCR’s Regional Youth Peacebuilding Project (RYPP), starting in camps in West Nile, Uganda with plans to expand to more countries. The ASPIRE project builds on a 4-year research project led by DRC in affiliation with University of Copenhagen.

About the job
The ASPIRE project is seeking a project officer with a background in anthropology, ethnography, global development or another closely related study. This position will support the fundraising and proposal development on the UNHCR funded ASPIRE project, including administrative tasks, support with a desk-based donor mapping, and support on literature review and report editing. Daily collaboration will be with the project teams in the respective HQ and country units, and other support functions. The applicant will be an integral part of the team, supporting ASPIRE and being involved in supporting our team of field-based researchers in communities of West Nile (Uganda) and Kakuma (Kenya).

Key tasks include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Update donor mapping and develop a database of key contacts
  • Support Programme Manager on proposal development and fundraising strategy
  • Support data management system
  • Conduct comprehensive literature review

In addition:

  • Practical and administrative assistance in relation to field visits, workshops and meetings, as required
  • Support data management and report writing
  • Support the supervision of research assistants in regard to qualitative methods.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect the following:

  • Keen interest in humanitarian assistance and development, international relations and refugee issues.
  • Have completed a master’s degree, preferably in anthropology, ethnography, global development or another closely related study.
  • Have 1-2 years of experience in a related field with similar tasks.
  • Fluency in both oral and written English.
  • Proactive, flexible and detail-oriented approach to tasks and a service minded approach.
  • Good collaboration and communication skills and ability to build good working relations with people from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Experience from East Africa is an advantage.

We offer
Contract length: 5 months (with the possibility of extension, subject to funding).

Working hours: 32 hours per week.

Work place: Borgergade 10, 1300 Copenhagen.

Start date: 1 June 2024

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and AC. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.

The role will be based in Denmark.

Please note that you need to have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa) in order to be considered for this role.
