Would you like to be part of an exciting journey of generating scientific insights on the health effects of human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), in addition to further improving infant formulas by bringing them closer to breastmilk? The Applied HMOs team within Novonesis is looking for an immunologist with an entrepreneurial mindset and with a strong passion and drive for leading and executing on our immunology platform.

Welcome to the Applied HMOs team
The Applied HMOs team is a passionate, new science team (established in 2021), and includes technicians, scientists, and students. Our key role is to generate and communicate scientific data on the health effects mediated by HMOs. An important task of the team is to generate data for peer-reviewed journals and patents, and to participate and present data at relevant conferences. We moreover work closely with the commercial team to translate science into applied contexts and collaborate with CROs and academia on data generation. We work with an entrepreneurial mindset with the goal to revolutionize the global infant formula market by generating more scientific evidence on HMOs. We have a serious approach to our work, but also have fun along the way both within the team, as well as with colleagues from other departments. In this role you’ll make an impact by:
As our senior immunologist, you will be a key member of the Applied HMOs team by leading our immunology platform. Your primary role will be to ensure a strong platform both by running existing in vitro assays and by establishing novel experimental immunological workflows. You will work closely with our commercial team and will also be involved in meetings with customers. It is therefore important that you have an applied approach to the generation of scientific data. In addition, you will be responsible to identify and connect with relevant collaborators incl. CROs and academia. Finally, you will work closely with internal stakeholders from our clinical-, IP and R&D teams. Overall, we are looking for a scientist with a scientific mindset, but who enjoys working in an entrepreneurial environment and takes a strong interest in developing new competences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead our immunology platform
  • Outlining the scientific strategy within immunology together with our commercial colleagues
  • Identify and collaborate with relevant external stakeholders (CROs and academia)
  • Work closely with technicians in planning, executing, and reporting on experimental work
  • Interpret and integrate in vitro findings with in vivo and clinical outcomes
  • Provide scientific support to our commercial- and leadership teams
  • Communicate results in peer-reviewed scientific publications, to colleagues in diverse roles and to customers
  • Evaluate scientific data for potential patent applications

Some travel activities can be expected, for example to external stakeholders, our German R&D site, conferences, and customers.

To succeed you must hold:
You are independent, creative, and capable of running multiple projects at the same time. You thrive in a dynamic environment, and you meet obstacles with a positive and solution-oriented approach. Moreover, you will ensure progress by having a holistic overview, take ownership and create the necessary structure to maintain and advance the immunology platform. You feel comfortable making decisions and paving the way. As you will collaborate with large parts of the organization, it is a clear advantage that you are a good communicator and thrive in an interactive role.

Your scientific competencies:

  • You hold a PhD with subsequent ≥ 3 years of experience in academia or industry
  • Proven experience and strong passion for immunology incl. in vitro experience with innate and adaptive immune cells (e.g. dendritic cells, macrophages, T- and B-cells)
  • Solid experience working with immunology from a phenotypic and mechanistic approach
  • Great understanding of different research approaches within immunology: in vitro, in vivo clinical studies
  • Excellent skills in various analytical technologies (incl. flow cytometry, MSD/ELISA, qPCR, omics technologies)
  • Structured approach to data and open for applying new methods to streamline and analyze data e.g. via coding languages
  • Proven experience working with technicians or students
