The Position
As a Development Scientist you will be responsible for planning, executing and analysing downscaled downstream purification experiments to ensure a robust purification process to remove and/or inactivate potential viral contaminants and coordinate activities to ensure the virus safety of mammalian expressed recombinant proteins in development.

You will ensure the virus safety of assigned projects. This encompasses various responsibilities such as evaluating downstream purification processes, providing input regarding virus safety in different aspects of projects – including evaluation of raw materials, Drug substance and Drug Product – and interacting with stakeholders. Additionally, you will be responsible for preparation of documentation for health authority agencies across the world.

The main tasks will be to:

  • Conducting virus clearance evaluation studies of downscaled purification processes
  • Plan, evaluate and report experimental work carried out in the laboratory
  • Provide data as well as input to purification process development
  • Collaborate with laboratory technicians, including trouble shooting on technical issues
  • Participate in various scientific writing tasks including documents for clinical trial applications etc.

Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you have:

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in bio-chemical engineering, protein chemistry or similar
  • Solid experience from related areas
  • Experience within a GMP regulated area is beneficial
  • Experience with downstream purification process steps such as chromatography and nanofiltration e.g. with ÄKTA chromatography system
  • Knowledge of cell-based assays and a general understanding of virus safety of pharmaceuticals is an advantage
  • Good communication skills in English

It is therefore considered an advantage to be an innovative individual with ability and experience within the areas of automation and digitalization. Knowledge within molecular detection techniques e.g. qPCR and RT-qPCR or other is beneficial but not a requirement.

About the Department
As part of Novo Nordisk PSQIT organisation, Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) Development & Scaling makes a real difference for patients with chronic diseases across the world. We develop, manufacture and distribute drug candidates for clinical trials and have a strong culture with a “can do” mind-set.

The job is within the Virology and Cell Banks department in CMC API Process Operations, located in Gentofte. Our main responsibility is to contribute to the development of manufacturing processes for new mammalian expressed products - all the way from development to market authorisation focusing on validation of purification processes for its virus clearance capacity. This is performed in close collaboration with the downstream purification team, research and manufacturing units, quality assurance and pilot facilities. The Virology and Cell Bank department has 35+ employees which are divided in 4 teams.
