We Offer:
We’re seeking a Legal Counsel to join Maersk’s Claims team—a global group of around 100 professionals dedicated to managing customer cargo claims for both Ocean and Logistics segments. As a Senior Legal Counsel on the Global Claims and Incident Management team, you will closely collaborate with our Global Claims Hub and Regional Teams to enhance and drive the team’s service offerings. We operate within a dynamic environment, continuously adapting to meet the evolving needs of the business.
Key responsibilities:
- Legal analysis in respect of higher value and complex cargo claims including but not limited to international conventions and/or comment on the application of contractual terms across a spectrum of logistics and product offerings
- Take ownership of certain specialist claims matters and claims litigation as directed
- Supporting the Regional Heads with Global and Regional initiatives and taking ownership where appropriate
- Support Legal, Procurement and Commercial desks revising contracts in respect of clauses/appendices regarding claims
- Assist in drafting of R&R and settlement agreements
- Assisting the incident team in respect of smaller shipment incidents
- Support Regional Heads with the onboarding of newly acquired business
- Work in close collaboration with Deputy Regional Heads of Claims where appropriate
- Help to build and deliver a knowledge management function within the Claims team including planning and delivering training within the team
We’re looking for:
- 7+ years of post-qualification experience practicing law within the maritime or logistics industry
- Demonstrated expertise in maritime, logistics, supply chain, and/or transportation sectors
- Preferably experienced with AI-driven claims management solutions
- Fully licensed and in good standing with the appropriate legal authority
- Proven success in handling complex commercial transactions, ideally with both in-house and private practice exposure
- Capable of working independently while actively collaborating with both local and global teams
- Exceptional command of English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Skilled at navigating matrixed environments and influencing stakeholders without direct authority
- Commercially astute, proactive, and solution-oriented approach
- Strong team player, dedicated to contributing to a positive and productive work environment
